RESEARCH PAPER FOR FRE 105
Choose a Film related to French History Choose an interesting title for the paper. Your paper should have
the following components:
Cover Page including title, date submitted, name, FRE 105
Min. 3, max 5 + notes and bibliography -typed double spaced 12 pitch text pages which include:
Paper guidelines
o An Introductory paragraph: present the focus of your paper. Narrow the topic and why you think it is
relevant to French history and culture. Importance of (1) for History (military history? food
history?Women? Europe, USA-Europe relations, literature, arts, music..?)
It is important to demonstrate that you have engaged in critical thinking about your topic and the material
you have found related to it.
Write a short summary of the film and presentation of different points which you selected for their
cultural relevance.
a-- a brief summary of plot with historical element, event, character..
b-- Geographical location(s)
c--relate the film to the historical evolution of France
d-- issues targeted
e-- indicate how your appreciation of the film is enhanced by your awareness of French culture
and history
f--illustrate by selecting a critical moment in the film, and situating it in the plot
o Use internal notes (or other appropriate reference style) for ALL information obtained from sources.
A general bibliography with no page- references is not sufficient-- make sure to support what you say
with data from sections from the course and 3 sources (bibliography)
o Use " " (quotation marks for any citations from texts) and indicate the source, pages of citation.
Rephrase with own words, never copy verbatim without quoting.
o A concluding paragraph that sums up what you have found.
Bibliography/Works Cited Page A minimum of three resources must be cited.

-online resources /articles are OK.
-references to course handouts and discussions are OK.

Grading FOR FRE 105 History PAPER : You are expected to turn in your paper on or before the due
date. Late papers will not be accepted unless good reason. You must certify that your paper does not
contain plagiarized material. It is the rule that if your paper is found to include plagiarized material you
will receive a failing grade for this assignment. The total possible score for the paper will be 50 points as
follows:
o Form and Appropriateness of Topic (20pts)
 Appropriateness of Topic, Length of Paper 5 pts
 Use of Footnotes, Quotations 5 pts
 Bibliography/Works Cited correct form and number 10 pts
o Content (30 pts)
 Introduction - See instructions sheet 5pts
 Body 5 pts -Includes:Organization, Development, Writing Skill, Clarity,
Completeness, Integration of Sources, Personal Contribution 5pts
 Conclusion -5 pts
