The web quest corresponds to the following SLO’s of topic E 1.Students will recognize that there are many different kinds of small crawling and flying animals, and identify a range of examples that are found locally 2. students will compare and contrast small animals that are found in the local environment. These animals should include at least three invertebrates-that is, animals such as insects, spiders, centipedes, slugs, worms. 5. Describe the relationships of these animals to other living and non-living things in their habitat and to people. This web quest was designed to be an introduction to the unit and lets students discover on their own different bug found in their community, different characteristics of the bugs and lets students see how they all very. Teachers may wish to have students present their bug poster to the class. That way all students will hear about all the bugs. Bugs studied during the web quest can then be used as example through the rest of the topic/unit when covering the other outcomes and talking about thing such as habitat, role in the food chain, relationship to humans in order to help students make deeper connections. For the web quest students should be paired in groups of three with one strong reader, one weak reader, and one inbetween to ensure all groups can read the web sites/information. Teachers may wish to vary group sizes depending on the number of strong readers in the class and class size.
