CLASS TIME & ROOM: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 13:00 to 15:50, AH176 PREREQUISITE: Management 2400 th COURSE MATERIALS: Fundamentals of Corporate Finance – 5 (6th ) Cdn edition Ross, Westerfield, Jordan, Roberts - McGraw Hill COURSE OBJECTIVE: After completion of this course, the student will understand (at an introductory level) risk and return relationships, securities market, time value of money, security valuation, capital budgeting, and working capital management. In addition, the student will be able to perform basic analyses of financial statements, solve simple time value of money problems, value traditional debt and equity securities, estimate costs of long and short term capital components, and analyze projects using capital budgeting techniques. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Grades will be determined by: Midterm Exam 35% Final Exam 40% Quizzes 25% Exams - each exam will cover assigned chapters, discussion in class, handouts, and any other material assigned. The final exam will be cumulative, covering all material in the course. Midterm: May 31st Final Exam: June 21st Quizzes – There will be a quiz at the beginning of each lecture covering the material that we discussed in the prior lecture. I will drop the grade your lowest quiz grade. Participation - While no grade is assigned for participation, students that actively participate generally perform better on exams and assignments. The class will be interactive in nature and your contribution will be appreciated. Always bring your notes and calculator to class. Weighting and time of writing of any exam or quiz cannot be shifted, except when a documented, legitimate reason is provided which will be verified (eg. medical reasons supported by a Doctor’s note). All exams must be submitted to the Instructor/Invigilator before leaving the room or a grade of zero will be recorded. All University of Lethbridge calendar policies, including Academic Offences and Discipline Procedures, will be enforced. Plagiarism on assignments and cheating during exams will be punished to the full extent allowable by the University. . Questions & Problems It is strongly recommended students work through the assigned questions and problems. Students are encouraged to contact the instructor by email, during office hours, or by appointment if difficulties arise in understanding the solutions. Exams – format, formula sheet, calculator All exams are closed book. Use of a calculator (non-programmable) and a formula sheet will be allowed during tests. Understanding formulas is essential to the study of finance, but fluency in the use of a financial calculator will help ensure accuracy and efficiency. Office Visits Any subject of discussion is permissible during office visits with one exception: I will not discuss forthcoming exams in the office or outside of class. All students will have the same information concerning exams, so ask questions concerning forthcoming exams in class.
