Population Health Interventions: Integrating Individual and Group Level
Evidence
National Institutes of Health (NIH); To improve health and reduce the burden
of disease, scientific research needs to be implemented at the population level in
addition to the biological and clinical levels. The purpose of this funding
opportunity announcement (FOA) is to support multilevel, transdisciplinary
population health interventions that target underlying social, economic, and
environmental conditions in an effort to improve health outcomes. Proposals are
due May 7, 2016. For more information, visit Grants.nih.gov

OVW FY 2016 Research and Evaluation Program
Department of Justice (DoJ); Office on Violence Against Women (OVW); The
purpose of the Research and Evaluation (R&E) Program is to research and
evaluate approaches to combatting domestic violence, sexual assault, dating
violence, and stalking. By generating more knowledge about strategies for
serving victims and holding offenders accountable, communities that benefit
from VAWA funding will be better equipped to align their work with practices
that are known to be effective, and they will be more capable of generating
empirical knowledge on the efficacy of new and promising ways of doing things.
Proposals are due May 2, 2016. For more information, visit Grants.gov
Carol M. White Physical Education Program
Department of Education (DoE); Office of Elementary and Secondary
Education (OESE); The Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP)
provides grants to local educational agencies (LEAs) and community-based
organizations (CBOs) to initiate, expand, and improve physical education for
students in grades K-12. Grant recipients must implement programs that help
students make progress toward meeting State physical education standards.

Modeling Social Behavior
National Institutes of Health (NIH); This Funding Opportunity Announcement
(FOA) encourages applications for developing and testing innovative theories
and computational, mathematical, or engineering approaches to deepen our
understanding of complex social behavior. This research will examine
phenomena at multiple scales to address the emergence of collective behaviors
that arise from individual elements or parts of a system working together.
Proposals are due June 5, October 5, and February 5 annually. For more

Obesity and Asthma: Awareness and Self- Management
National Institutes of Health (NIH); National Institute of Nursing Research
(NINR); The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement is to stimulate
research to examine the relationship between asthma, obesity and selfmanagement. The prevalence of both asthma and obesity has significantly risen
in the past few decades. Although the association between these two conditions
has been found in many studies, the exact mechanisms for how this association
arises are unresolved to include self-management and achieving control. Because
both of these conditions have their beginnings in early life, an aspect of the
association between them that requires more understanding is their common
exposures in early life and transition into adulthood. Proposals are due June 5,
October 5, and February 5 annually. For more information, visit Grants.nih.gov
Maternal Nutrition and Pre-pregnancy Obesity: Effects on Mothers, Infants
and Children
National Institutes of Health (NIH); National Institute of Nursing Research
(NINR); Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS); This Funding Opportunity
Announcement (FOA) encourages applications to improve health outcomes for
women, infants and children, by stimulating interdisciplinary research focused
on maternal nutrition and pre-pregnancy obesity. Maternal health significantly
impacts not only the mother but also the intrauterine environment, and
subsequently fetal development and the health of the newborn. Proposals are
due June 5, October 5, and February 5 annually. For more information, visit

to victims and their communities. The role of the justice system is to determine a
fair and impartial resolution on behalf of society. However, legal financial
obligations resulting from criminal justice involvement including fines, fees, and
costs may undermine these very goals. These findings and other sources report
justice agencies focused on maximizing revenue, rather than public safety and
rehabilitation; people being incarcerated for failing to pay despite inability to do
so; and racial and ethnic disparity in the impacts of criminal justice debt.
Currently, little is known about the extent to which government agencies rely on
fines and fees, whether it is cost beneficial to fund efforts to collect fines and fees;
and the extent and effects of fines and fees on justice-involved individuals. This
program will make available site-based grants and technical assistance available
for state and local government agencies to implement innovative approaches to
addressing the common barriers to equitable systems of legal financial
obligations. Proposals are due May 12, 2016. For more information, visit
