I am having the best time as a student at Newcastle University! Before I arrived I was nervous, but making new friends was easier than I anticipated. The other international students were in the same boat as me. I made new friends the very first week during the
International Welcome Events. I went to Fresher’s Fair to get involved on campus. There were tons of different societies. I joined the International Society and went on a trip to see Bamburgh Castle! I have gone on lots of city trips with Give-it-a-Go too! It is an inexpensive and fun way to explore other cities with Newcastle students. I also joined the climbing club and made use of the Fitness Centre often.
The biggest benefit of studying abroad has been getting a new perspective on my course.
The professors in the Biomedical department are very knowledgeable and involved in important research. I found all my lecturers to be helpful and dedicated to teaching. I love that my classes are small enough for the professors to recognize me outside of lectures.
The labs and assigned work supplemented my learning nicely. I can tell that our modules have been carefully planned and I feel like I have learned a great deal from them. If I ever had any questions about administration I went to girls in the Learning Centre on the first floor of the Faculty of Medicine building. They are friendly and willing to help! I had an advisor keep in touch with me throughout the semester in case I had any other questions.
Overall, all the Newcastle University staff have been incredibly helpful in making the best experience studying abroad.
One bonus about studying at Newcastle University is the month long Easter break in
April. I was able travel Europe and visit 12 countries! It was a phenomenal experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. I travelled with other international students – we made great memories!
I was surprised by how friendly all the people I have met have been, including the
Newcastle locals, university staff, and students. It made for a smooth adjustment to living in a different country. Newcastle is a great city to live as a young adult. The campus is situated right down town and so I was able to walk wherever I needed to go. Newcastle has great nightlife too! On a sunny day it is fun to take a trip to Tynemouth to stroll the big Sandy beach and try the famous fish n’ chips. I was content with my workload and was able to balance lots of fun along with studying for my modules.
I am so happy and fortunate to have had the opportunity to study abroad at
Newcastle University. I would recommend it as top choice for all students considering a semester abroad. I would not change anything about my time in
Newcastle and will always think back fondly of my great memories and new friends.
