REPORT OF THE LEAD MEMBER FOR ARTS AND LEISURE
To the: CABINET MEETING
On:
8th October, 2003
TITLE: SALFORD'S PUBLIC LIBRARY POSITION STATEMENT 2003
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the report is approved
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Position Statement outlines the current position of the Library Service in terms of
policy, practice and response to the Public Library Standards.
Improving visitor numbers, plans for new build and refurbished libraries in multi-use
sites and increased materials budgets combine to give a picture of an improving
service addressing the government's agenda as outlined in "Framework for the Future"
[DCMS. 2003].
All but three of the 28 Public Library Standards should be fulfilled by March 2004 visitor numbers, opening hours outside 9 - 5 and professional staff numbers remain
difficult to reach and depend on additional or diverted resources.
