Overview
► We
will use the concepts of energy
conversion to put toothpaste on a
toothbrush
Materials
► Mousetrap

► Two Funnels - $5
► PVC Pipe - $3
► Scrap Wood - Free
► Lots of Duct Tape - $2
Steps
► When
enough sand has fallen the bottle begins to
Tension in the string is released allowing the sand
to fall in to the bottle
► fall, causing the marble to rise up to the first
funnel
► The ball then goes through the funnel and down
the PVC pipe and sets off a mouse trap
► The mouse trap then hits the tube of toothpaste
and squeezes toothpaste onto the toothbrush
Energy Conversions
► String:
Tension in string enough to hold cup of
sand upright, then released to spill cup
► Sand: Potential Energy to Kinetic Energy via
gravity creating force to unbalance the beam
► Marble: Enlarged Potential Energy (rise of height)
to Kinetic Energy down pipe and creating force
strong enough to set off trap
► Rat Trap: Spring Potential Energy released to
Kinetic Energy creating force to squeeze
toothpaste out
