Instructional Technology
and Material Development
Assoc.Prof. Dr.
Kürşat Çağıltay
Instructional Technology and Material Development
First, What is Technology?
 Greek: “Technos” or
Know-how
 A Device or a Method
 Electronic or Mechanical
Instructional Technology?
 "Instructional Technology is the theory and
practice of design, development, utilization,
management and evaluation of processes
and resources for learning.” (Seels & Ritchey,
1994)
 Theory and Practice
 Design, Development, Utilization,
Management and Evaluation
 Processes and Resources for Learning
Instructional Media
 From Latin that means
“between”
 Any channel that
carries the information
between source and
receiver
 Most of the time
media are tangible
(physical, real)
Why Instructional Technology?
 Enhancement of Learning
So in this class your job is
Creating better learning
environments by using technology
How will we do it?
Like this?
Or like this?
How about this....
This requires a lot of Planning and
Documentation
If you do not follow a methodology..
Projects need Project Management:
Why?
 According to KALDER’s (Kalite Dernegi)
report
– ülkemizde yazılım projelerinin profesyonel
bir şekilde planlanıp yönetilmediği ortaya
çıkıyor.
– Proje yönetimi çok zayıf ve yönetim
yeterince araç desteği ile yapılmıyor, ölçme
yok, iş akış yok, yönetim zaafları var
Project Management
 süreç yaklaşımı yok.
 Genellikle hiç bir standard temel alınmıyor.
 standartlaşma ve evrensel metodların
kullanımı gerekli
So,
 In this class we will learn how to create
instructional materials by following
scientific approach
