CORE OBJECTIVES AND ASSESSMENT
Each course included in the core curriculum must address the core objectives for the
appropriate component area. Please respond to each of the core objectives below by
providing a description of how the course will address each objective and ways in which
students’ level of mastery of each objective will be assessed, either by a course-based
assessment or by signature assignments designed for communal assessment. Please
refer to attached syllabus for specific assignments.
In the narrative responses below, please indicate how the objective is tied to specific
assignment(s). Departments must choose one option for all sections of the course. The
option will remain in effect until a department desiring to change the mode of assessment
reapplies via the ongoing core curriculum course change process.
Assessment
Assessment

COURSE SYLLABUS
Attach a complete course syllabus (may be a sample syllabus for courses with many
sections) which demonstrates the strategies and assessments/assignments referenced
above. While textbooks, content-specific assignments, and (to an extent) content may
vary among sections of a single course, each department must ensure that the core
objectives and assessment/signature assignments are consistent throughout all sections.
Be sure to clearly identify assignments/assessment and their attached objectives. The
course syllabus must contain a course purpose statement, which must specify to students
that the course fulfills the requirements for a particular core component area (i.e. “This
course satisfies the UT Arlington core curriculum requirement in mathematics.”) The
states outcomes for the course must also included the core objectives attached to the
component area to which the course belongs.
