Job Title (code): IT Specialist II (9805) Purpose Purpose: Persons in the IT Specialist II classification install and support computing or basic data communications/ telecommunications equipment and software and perform diagnostics of problems with that hardware and software. Persons in ITS II positions work under the supervision of a technical manager and are responsible for Essential Functions Function 1: Maintenance OIT lab ? Hardware _ Software Diagnose and perform basic to advanced repairs of Lab PC?s, software and peripherals Maintain hardware / Software in OIT Labs Deploy computer lab images when needed Update printer firmware as needed Maintain Software security using Web Jet admin. Handle ITSM logs ? Resolve Lab Hardware _ Software issues. Working with outside contractor?s for warranty repairs. 30 % Time Function 2: Day to Day OIT Lab Operations. Day to day coordination and functioning of OIT Labs. Maintain records of services and lab usage for assessment and planning. Assuring OIT lab hardware / software meet department?s requirements. Maintain OIT Lab physical Inventory (Hardware _ Software). Handle / resolve printing ?refunds? and ?reprints?. Handles and resolves faculty and students concerns in a timely manner. Maintaining instructional lab reservations for academic classes/training. 25 % Time Function 3: Manage Student Lab Assistants. Hire _ Terminate student lab assistants. Providing ongoing supervision, training and coaching Lab Assistants. Scheduling Staff (Lab Assistants) using When-ToWork. _Update Lab Assistant time Cards. Document Lab procedures. .Process OIT Lab and other Student workers payroll 30 % Time Function 4: General Update OIT lab web page (e.g. hours of operation, Software list, holiday schedules etc.) Order lab supplied (printer paper, cartridges, cleaning supplies etc.) Manage Vendor relationships and vendor negotiation for hardware and software Research and testing ? new hardware and software. Assist departments with RTP?s and hardware / software orders End of month printer usage reports Documentation of repair work to analyze hardware malfunctions. 15 % Time Function 5: % Time Function 6: % Time Function 7: % Time Function 8: % Time Marginal/Incidental Functions Marginal/Incidental Functions: Other related functions as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Associate?s Degree in related field and three years of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required: Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department. Knowledge of principles of computing and communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in distributed environment. Ability to install and configure desktop computer hardware and software. Ability to install and configure basic data communications and or telecommunications hardware with some supervision with little supervision. Ability to assimilate, retain and utilize technical and applications-oriented information. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in computer use in an educational setting, preferably 2 years experience in a computer lab situation involving computer facility management and troubleshooting. Experience with all aspects of supervising student workers which includes but not limited to posting, interviewing, hiring, payroll and training of student workers. 2 years of practical work experience in a computer-related field. Knowledge of and/or experience with an extensive variety of computer hardware, software, and peripherals. Hands-on experience in support of PC hardware, software, and OS. Individual must have effective written and oral communication skills, demonstrate an ability to effectively interact with faculty and students. Experience with end of year inventory including keeping up with inventory records, checking out loaner equipment. Mac and Dell Certification(s)a plus.
