Utilities Station Operator I Job Description TITLE: Utilities Station Operator I JOB CODE: 5135 EFFECTIVE DATE: FLSA STATUS: NE EEO6 CODE: 6 = Skilled Crafts PURPOSE: To provide the skills necessary for the operation and maintenance of utility equipment within a central plant environment. Responsible for providing assistance in the operation of electrical, mechanical equipment or systems. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operates and maintains high pressure steam boilers, centrifugal refrigeration machines, cooling towers, compressors, pumps and related equipment. Reads and records pressures, temperatures, fluid levels and other operating conditions. Maintains engineering logs and equipment status. Performs and records results of water analysis. Performs required preventive maintenance work. Clean, repair, oil and/or paint equipment, piping, or building structure. Perform related duties as required. Disassemble, repair and reassemble operating devices. Notify energy plant supervision in the event of an accident or serious malfunction. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Close supervision on all oral and written directions from Utilities Operations Supervisor and Utility Station Operator II. Work is reviewed through periodic inspection of log sheets and charts. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: None. REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: High school graduation or 3 years experience. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a steam and power generating plant or chilled water plant. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of high pressure steam heating and power generating plant and/or chilled water plant. Must be accurate in all phases of work performed. Working conditions are considered suitable; however occasionally involve heavy lifting, exposure to hazards of boilers, generators, mechanical equipment, high voltage electrical equipment and some exposed to inclement weather. Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and to others. Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
