Grounds Maintenance Supervisor - Jan Hergert Purpose Purpose: Provide landscape leadership and master planning input for UTA campus, in excess of 400 acres. Provide supervision and planning skills in the care and culture of plants, flowers, and maintenance of grounds. Responsible for maintenance and beautification of all grounds, floral gardens, landscaped areas, and rough areas. Essential Functions Function 1: Plan, schedule, assign, and supervise landscaping, seeding, weeding, cultivating, pruning, spraying, and transplanting of a large variety of shrubs, trees, and greenery. Supervise the removal of leaves, grass, dirt, and rubbish from grounds. Supervise Banner Maintenance program. Visit campus sites to view conditions and project progress. 50 % Time Function 2: Provide master planning and design for campus horticulture and related landscaping, including review and recommendations for new building site development with architectural consultants, in conjunction with AVP of Facilities, and campus architects. 10 % Time Function 3: Interview and hire suitable applicants for employment in the grounds section of Facilities Management. Discipline, train, evaluate, and discharge employees as required for efficient campus operations. 10 % Time Function 4: Utilize computer applications and an automated time-keeping system to maintain employee time and attendance records. Prepare sketches for development, improvement, or expansion of landscaped areas. Coordinate with proposed building and construction plans. Prepare reports of work performed. Access computerized work order system. 10 % Time Function 5: Supervise the operation, maintenance and repair of tractors, cultivators, edgers, power mowers, and other equipment used in grounds maintenance. 10 % Time Function 6: Requisition and distribute materials and equipment for grounds maintenance work. Qualifications Required Qualifications: High school graduation or equivalent. 7 years experience in grounds care and maintenance, including 1 year in a supervisory capacity. Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of tractors, cultivators, edgers, power lawn mowers, and other equipment used in grounds maintenance.
