Academic Advisor III
Purpose
Purpose:
Recruit, track the success of, and advise students for the University Studies degree
program. Work with intensive probation cases, as well as other campus
departments, to help students succeed and graduate.
Essential Functions
Function 1:
Advise students regarding University Studies degree program and work with
intensive student probation cases.
50 % Time
Function 2:
Recruit new students to the program. Attend Preview Days and transfer events;
mailings and emailings. Create and update publications and materials for the
program.
5 % Time
Function 3:
Develop methods for tracking and regular reporting of program entry point, student
retention and graduation.
15 % Time
Function 4:
Work with the Director to develop, maintain, and monitor business practices that
allow students to easily matriculate through and graduate from the program.
10 % Time
Function 5:
Supervise the Degree Plan Evaluator II and Academic Advisors I and II.
5 % Time
Function 6:
Oversee commencement ceremony planning.
5 % Time
Function 7:
Oversee implementation of student admission processes to the program and funnel
into proper institution or online course tracks.
10 % Time

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree. 6 years of work experience in an education-related field (teaching,
academic counseling, student affairs, academic support, etc.), including a minimum
of 4 years of experience in direct academic advising. Applicants must include in their
online resume the following information: 1) Employment history: name of company,
period employed (from month/year to month/year), job title, summary of job duties
and 2) Education: college or college degree, list school name, degree type, major,
graduated or not, and hours completed if not graduated.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in higher education or a related field. Experience working with college
students. Academic advising experience in a college setting. Experience advising for
a degree-granting program (experience advising for a department that has the
ability to issue college degrees). Attention to details. Familiarity with general
institution residency and graduation requirements and ability to make decisions
about what courses meet what requirements. Proficiency with Excel, Access, and
other data management software. Excellent communication skills.
