PURPOSE: To provide computer/video interface and network support, service center equipment maintenance and technical coordination of videoconferencing and satellite downlinks.

Responsible for the scheduling, setup, operation, maintenance, repair and installation of video, electronic and computing equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the day-to-day technical operation of equipment used by the University for videoconferencing and video productions. Operates, maintains and performs minor repairs on the videoconferencing production and networking equipment; computer hardware and software used in videoconferencing; video and audio tape machines, cameras, audio mixers, television monitors, receivers and other related equipment as necessary. Monitors equipment purchases, working conditions and the use of various equipment.

Suggests changes in any related areas to maintain quality of service. Train staff personnel to become proficient in the use of technical equipment. Performs related duties as required.

Performs satellite downlink coordination, scheduling and operations. Coordinates room requests and video projections, monitors event site and provides billing information to the front desk.

Performs equipment maintenance alignment, minor repair and installation. Coordinates major repair with external vendors and performs VAVS back-up support.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

REPORTS TO: General direction from Manager of Technical Operations.

SUPERVISION: N/A

SUPERVISION-OTHER: General supervision of departmental staff.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education

REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering,

Communications or other related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER:

REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Two years of related technical experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Videoconferencing systems, satellite downlink equipment, fiber optic transmitters and receivers, fiber optic light source instruments, fiber optic power meters, video waveforms, vector scopes, oscilloscopes, field strength meters and other test equipment.

Fair, but involve the following: 1.) Exposure to greater than average mental pressure to meet production schedules and deadlines 2.) Unusual hours due to the nature of broadcasting and productions 3.) Probability of engaging in strenuous physical activity during the installations and/or set-up of equipment systems 4.) Possibility of inflicting injury to self or others based on working in the presence of some hazards [electrical equipment, high voltage, chemicals, biohazards, etc.] 5.) Periodic work above drop ceiling and under raised floors. Extreme proficiency and accuracy in all duties performed. Work requires the exercise of considerable judgment in the application and interpretation of policy, procedures or precedents to work problems having broad implications. Careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others.
