Manager, Technical Operations Job Description TITLE: Manager, Technical Operations JOB CODE: 8427 EFFECTIVE DATE: FLSA STATUS: E EEO6 CODE: 3 = Professional/Non-faculty PURPOSE: To perform supervisory and technical work involved in managing technical operations and engineering activities. Responsible for managing all technical services; for supervising all technical operations; and for insuring the integrity of all equipment, including supervising the acquisition, maintenance, repair and long-term planning for all equipment. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinates the technical operations and engineering activities; including setting technical standards, supervising the maintenance, alignment, operation and repair of all equipment; and issuing technical staff assignments in support of service center activities. Coordinates the technical operations and engineering activities, including quality control of campus-wide presentation support and insuring adherence to procedures and policies. Performs ongoing technological research and makes equipment purchase decisions. Performs the design of video systems and supervises their installation; supervises technical productions; and oversees distance learning/videoconferencing to include connectivity with public and private networks. Assists in managing the operating and equipment budget. Solves engineering and operations problems. Provides technical consultation to UTA administration and represents the department on committees as required for technical outreach. Performs related duties as required. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Work is performed under minimum direction of the Director. Desired results are indicated in broad terms or objectives. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: Provides working supervision to the staff of a lower classification involved in technical operations. REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Completion of two years of college with course work in Electronic Technology, Communications or related field. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Six years of related technical experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity. Advanced knowledge of the electronic equipment, tools, materials, techniques and practices involved in the technical operations of a video facility. Extensive knowledge of analog and digital signals. Ability to design routing systems, cable television head-end and distributions systems, videoconferencing systems and video production and postproductions systems. Working knowledge of digital circuits used in compressed video networks. Ability to design systems using computer assisted design or drawing programs. Working knowledge of databases and spreadsheets. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Extensive knowledge of audiovisual and television equipment, experience with a variety of video production and postproduction equipment, diagnostic and alignment equipment, satellite down link equipment and videoconferencing equipment. Working conditions are fair, but involve exposure to the following: Unusual hours due to the nature of work, probability of engaging in strenuous physical activity during the installation and/or set-up of equipment systems, possibility of inflicting injury to self or other based on working in the presence of some hazards (electrical equipment, high voltage, chemicals, biohazards, etc.) and periodic work above drop ceilings and under raised floors. Work requires the exercise of considerable judgment in the interpretation of policy and procedures, scheduling production support, coordinating equipment maintenance, repair, acquisition and diagnosing and correcting operations problems.
