TITLE: Professional Librarian WORKING TITLE: Science & Engineering Library Manager CODE: 0100 FUNCTION: The Science & Engineering Library Manager directs, supervises and administers all activities and services of the Science & Engineering Library. Within the program area of Information Services, the Manager supervises two professional librarians and six paraprofessional staff to set priorities and marketing plans to serve the College of Science, College of Engineering, the Automation & Robotics Research Institute, and the UTA/Fort Worth Riverbend Campus. As one of the Information Services Librarians, the Manager serves as a primary point of contact between the UTA Libraries and the various communities of library users regardless of their location, serves as a liaison with designated academic departments to fulfill their information and research needs, and to conduct upper level instruction. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIITES: LEADERSHIP Organizes and administers all activities, employees, and services of the Science & Engineering Library (SEL); Supports and implements staff members’ initiatives, ideas, and services; Serves as a resource person in directing staff in completing difficult assignments or tasks; PLANNING Assumes responsibility for the development and implementation of the policies, procedures, and services of SEL; Assists and plans departmental priorities and objectives, and follows through with action plans and strategies; Interprets and implements University and general Libraries’ policies applicable to SEL; STAFFING Prepares job descriptions, position announcements, conducts interviews; Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff performance; Provides adequate staff training opportunities to ensure staff competency and job satisfaction; Schedules staff at service desk and assigns staff to special projects as needed; ORGANIZING In coordination with central circulation and through various working groups to establish procedures for circulation and reserves, that will serve the needs of all the UTA libraries; Assesses the organization and service programs of SEL and recommends desired modifications; Makes effective use of department resources, including staff, equipment, and facilities, as well as to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and university rules, regulations, and /or laws. COMMUNICATING Communicates with library staff internally and externally for departmental and library programs, priorities, and strategic plans; Maintains strong and effective communication with all SEL academic departments, and their students and staff; ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to: Coordinator for Information Services. WORKING CONDITIONS: Non-traditional work hours. Professional development and training may require some travel. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree from an American Library Association accredited program; Bachelor or Master degree in a science or engineering discipline or experience in a science or engineering library; knowledge of information resources in the relevant discipline; training or experience in library instruction.
