Academic Advisor III Job Description TITLE: Academic Advisor III JOB CODE: 3085 EFFECTIVE DATE: FLSA STATUS: E EEO6 CODE: 3 = Professional/Non-faculty PURPOSE: To assist with the coordination and supervision of an advising unit or program, including oversight of staff when requested by the center supervisor or advising administrator; program implementation; handle publicity, data collection, preparation of reports and accountability for meeting program objectives; or to manage more complex academic advising activities.Responsible for working collaboratively across constituencies to develop and implement practical solutions to complex problems; for training and supervising advising staff when requested; for assisting with implementation and assessment of efficient operations, understanding and communicating the needs of specific populations of students to administrators, implementing and interpreting institutional rules to students, facilitating the exchange of academic advising information to all concerned parties. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise advising staff in the absence of or at the request of the direct supervisor. Advise a specific population of students individually and in groups. Interact with and perform various outreach functions with groups, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, community members and parents. Explore new models for effective and efficient delivery of academic advising. Coordinate academic advising activities/projects among the academic advising community. Prepare required reports, budget plans and other information for the unit when requested by the supervisor. Assist with the recruitment and training of academic advising staff. Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in professional conferences and individual professional development. Serve on committees relevant to the mission of the unit. Represent the unit in community events that may occur outside of normal work hours. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: REPORTS TO: Functions independently; receives general instruction from designated supervisor. SUPERVISION: N/A SUPERVISION-OTHER: May provide collaborative leadership to employees, peer advisors, student workers, etc. REQUIRED EDUCATION: $education REQUIRED EDUCATION-OTHER: Master's degree in a related field. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / COMPETENCIES-OTHER: REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/COMPETENCIES: Six years of higher education experience with minimum four years in direct academic advising. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of two years academic advising experience at UTA. One year of supervisory experience in an institution of higher education. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: General office conditions with the majority of time spent in contact with students, staff and administrators both during and after. May be asked to work extended hours within a varying schedule, which may include weekends and evenings. Occasional travel to professional meetings and conferences may be required.Tact, diplomacy and judgment in dealing with students, faculty and administrators. Excellent customer service skills.
