Pilot
Period: 08/01/2012-07/31/2013
The current study is a feasibility project to examine whether changes in psychosocial outcomes,
(e.g., distress and depressive symptoms, and health-related quality of life) as a result of a
personalized, stepped-care psychosocial intervention (delivered through the physician’s clinic)
are associated with changes in important physiological mechanisms for metabolic control
(HbA1c, interleukin-6 (IL-6), c-reactive protein (CRP), γ’ fibrinogen, and lipoprotein size and
number) among adult patients with type 2 diabetes. (Principal Investigator)
“News Media Exposure and Habituation to Violent Media”
Principal Investigator: Jeffrey Swanson, MA
Agency:
Internal
AJLD 7
Type:
Pilot
Period: 08/01/2011-05/31/2012
This study is designed to investigate relationships between exposure to news media and the
levels of habituation that individuals present to exposure to violent media based on the threat
they experience from a news media topic. (Co-Principal Investigator/Faculty Sponsor)

Physical Activity”
Principal Investigator: Colin Jenney, ACSM-CPT
Agency:
Internal
Type:
Pilot
Period: 08/01/2011-05/31/2012
This study is designed to examine the relationships between the use of physically active video
games (exergames) and the adoption or maintenance of a regular exercise regimen in mostly
sedentary college students. It also serves to test the efficacy and feasibility of a prospective
intervention to modify physical activity involving the use of exergames. (Co-Principal
Investigator/Faculty Sponsor)
“Response of gamma delta T-cells to acute psychological stress”
Principal Investigator: Angela Liegey Dougall, PhD
Agency:
Internal
Type:
Pilot
Period: 06/01/2011-12/30/2012
This project investigates the response of a special subclass of T cells, gamma delta T-cells, to
acute psychological stress as well as the interrelationships among changes in these cells and
other immune and neuroendocrine markers. (Principal Investigator)
“Brief Psychosocial Intervention for Head and Neck Cancer”
Principal Investigator: Donna Posluszny, PhD
Agency:
National Cancer Institute

patients and families and is developing an intervention to improve quality of life and decrease
negative outcomes. (Consultant)
“Stress, Health, Exercise, and Performance (SHEP) Study”
Principal Investigator: Angela Liegey Dougall, PhD
Agency:
Internal
Type:
Pilot Project
Period: 09/01/2008-12/31/2010
This project seeks to determine the barriers and benefits to physical activity and use of the
Maverick Activities Center that are amenable to intervention among college Freshmen and
incoming Transfer students. It also examines the relationships among physical activity level,
stress levels, perceived health, and academic and work performance. (Principal Investigator)

Principal Investigator: Jessica Grimm
Agency:
Internal
Type:
Pilot Project
Period: 10/08/2009-10/08/2010
This project seeks to assess positive and negative aspects of adjustment to college life. It
examines what variables serve as moderators between resilience an academic stress in a
sample of college students from the University of Texas at Arlington. (Co-Investigator/Faculty
Sponsor)
“Adjustment to Lung Cancer”
Principal Investigator: Angela Liegey Dougall, PhD
Agency:
UTSW-UT Arlington Collaborative Research Program
AJLD 8
Type:
Pilot Project 14-7410-27
Period: 04/01/2007-08/31/2008
This research extends previous research examining the manifestations, determinants, and health
outcomes of negative and positive responses to lung cancer by adding closer examination of
specific mechanisms such self-blame and guilt and chronic inflammation. (Principal Investigator)
