Undergraduate Curriculum Committee Minutes
Friday, October 26, 2012
The meeting began at 8:00 am with introductions. We had several guests in attendance: Dr. Mike Gallo, Dr. Monica
Baloga, Dr. Jamie Younkin.
Dr. Ken Lindeman was in attendance for Representative Baksay from the College of Science.
Mr. Ismael Cremer was in attendance for Representative Dunbar from the College of Aeronautics.
The following items were passed on the consent agenda:
Item 2. College of Engineering (CRC-ECE 1001, CRC-ECE 1551,CRC-ECE 1552, CRC-ECE 2001, CRC-ECE

1) Cross Campus Form-PSY 4512
The following items were removed from the consent agenda:
Item 1. College of Aeronautics
a. ANC-AVS 2402 – Representative Baum inquired about the 2000 level and no prerequisite.
Sophomore standing added and approved.
b. ANC-AVS 4402 – After discussion AVT 1001 was added as a prerequisite to senior standing and
approved.
Item 3.1 College of Psychology and Liberal Arts, Humanities and Communication, Applied Music and
Advanced Jazz Techniques
ii) ANC-MUS 2150 – Representative Baum inquired about no prerequisite(s) but the course
description indicated, “Continues developing mastery…” which creates confusion. After
discussion the “continues developing…” sentence was stricken and the course was
approved.
iii) ANC-MUS 2160 – Representative Baum inquired about grading schema for the course, Dr.
Younkin explained the course dynamics which addressed the concern. Course passed with
no changes.
Item 3.4 College of Psychology and Liberal Arts, Humanities and Communication, Electives
i) ANC-MUS 2280 – Attention was brought to the fact that the online programs currently
utilizes HUM 2153 which MUS 2280 was intended to replace. The decision was made to
remove HUM 2153 from the list of courses replaced and add a restriction of enrolled in UA
only to HUM 2153.
Item 3.4 College of Psychology and Liberal Arts, Humanities and Communication, Recitals
ii) ANC-MUS 3190 – There was lengthy discussion on the pass/fail nature of the course and
that UGCC did not have a practice to approve for-credit courses for pass/fail and there is no
current policy available. After discussion the course was made zero credit and approved.
iii) ANC-MUS 4190 – See explanation for MUS 3190.
Item 3.1 College of Psychology and Liberal Arts, Psychology
2) ANC-PSY 4514 – Representative Baum were raised concerns about the number of classroom
versus lab hours. Representative R. Turner suggested that the course be 45 lecture hours (as
opposed to 30) and 45 lab hours (as opposed to 30) which Representative Edkins agreed.
Representative R. Turner also pointed out that it should have the “Q” designation. Both changes
were made and approved. Representative Rosiene pointed out that the current PSY 3513 which
is being replaced is a named prerequisite in several PSY courses.
Other:
1) COA revisit-CRC AVT 3999-AVT 4002
There was lengthy discussion on the UGCC position that for-credit cannot be pass/fail. Dr. Gallo represented AVT
and the rationale why they wanted pass/fail. The item was called to a vote after considerable discussion and
failed with 8 votes no and 3 abstentions.
2) Computer Literacy Discussion
Representative Baum inquired about the computer literacy requirement and its relationship to both the general
education requirement and SACS assessment/accreditation. Ms. Fox (Registrar’s office) and Mr. Finn (freshman
advisor observer) informed the group of the limitations currently to the ASC 1000 course when it was suggested
as meeting a computer literacy requirement. Dr. Baloga addressed the assessment aspects and offered to do
some research on the topic and inform UGCC in the future.
Meeting adjourned 9:15 am.
