Greene County Extension Mentoring Program Coordinator Job Description This part-time, temporary position works closely with the Greene County Mentoring Program Advisory Committee, Iowa Mentoring Partnership, and Greene County Extension staff to implement the youth mentoring program in Greene County. It is under general supervision of the County Extension Council and direct supervision of the County Extension Coordinator. Position is approximately 5-15 hours per week with the annual limit of hours dependent upon grant funding. Appointment term is July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016, with possibility for renewal. Job duties include, but are not limited to: Youth Mentoring Programming Recruit mentors, mentees, and other volunteers to participate in the program through marketing, promotion, and referrals Conduct face-to-face interviews and hold orientation sessions with potential mentors and mentees Provide ongoing screening of potential mentors before contact with children by conducting background checks and character references Orient and train mentors, mentees, and parents/caregivers by providing an overview of the program, clarifying roles/responsibilities/expectations, and discussing how to handle a variety of situations Match mentors and mentees using established criteria by arranging for introductions and ensuring all involved (including parents/caregivers) understand and agree to the terms and conditions of program participation Bring mentors and mentees together for mentoring sessions that fall within the program parameters, providing safe locations and circumstances, as well as resources and materials for activities Whenever possible, connect mentors and mentees with the Greene County 4-H program to incorporate the positive youth development components that the 4-H program provides. Provide ongoing support, supervision, and monitoring of mentoring relationships Communicate regularly with and offer continuing training opportunities for program participants Offer support to help mentors and mentees define next steps for achieving mentee goals and bring mentors together to share ideas and support Establish a process to manage grievances, resolve issues, and offer feedback for all program participants – mentors, mentees, and parents/caregivers Assist mentors and mentees whose relationship is not working out and ensure that appropriate documentation is done on a regular basis Recognize the contribution of all program participants through recognition events and by making the Greene County community aware of the contributions made by mentors, mentees, supporters, and funders Solicit feedback from mentors and mentees regarding their experience and use information to refine the program and retain mentors Actively recruit and retain members of the Greene County Mentoring Program Advisory Committee and facilitate the group’s meetings to improve programming and management Create/maintain a comprehensive system for managing program information, including finances, records, activities, program evaluation efforts, and documentation of mentor/mentee matches Design a resource development plan that allows for diversified fundraising such as individual, community, and corporate donors, as well as in-kind gifts and grant funding Monitor the mentoring program by reviewing policies and procedures on a regular basis, collecting program information from mentors and mentees, and continually assessing customer service Provide quarterly reports and other reports as required by any and all grants, and provide leadership for the writing and submission of future grants Develop a plan to measure program process and expected outcomes Create a process to reflect and disseminate evaluation findings Professional Development Develop and follow a personal professional development plan consistent with personal and organizational goals Participate in regular and ongoing training opportunities available from Iowa Mentoring Partnership and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Maintain positive working relationships with community partners and all county and state Extension staff Publicity Regularly update Greene County Extension website with latest news, events, and information related to mentoring programming in the county Assist in creating news releases and publications, as needed, to promote mentoring services to the general public, including schools, civic groups, and others interested Qualifications High school graduate, prefer associate’s or bachelor’s degree in youth subject matter Past experience in working with a mentoring program preferred Knowledgeable and supportive of total ISU Extension & Outreach program Ability to relate, respect, and appreciate volunteers, community leaders, and service providers People oriented, skilled in customer relations Willing to cooperate as a team player Adaptable to a flexible schedule Resident of Greene County preferred Job Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Computer skills (Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, Internet Explorer) Working knowledge of office equipment Filing and organizational skills Problem-solving skills and ability to work on multi-tasks simultaneously Self-starter – able to initiate work without direct supervision Benefits Hourly wage commensurate with experience and education On-going in-service training related to job responsibilities Employer’s share of Social Security, IPERS and Medicare Reimbursement for work related travel and meals Employee Personnel Handbook Greene County Extension is an Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
