The last day for project or livestock enrollments
or new enrollment for 4-H is May 15th. This year
everything will be done on 4-H Online. Don’t forget to
put your animals pictures online or drop them by the
office and we will scan your pictures for you.
It is very important to make sure all your static categories have
been entered into 4-H online. If this isn’t done, you will not be
eligible for showing at the Montgomery County Fair!! It would
be better to sign up for too many categories than not enough.
For example: if you aren’t sure if you are going to bake your
grandmas favorite dish, sign up for Food and Nutrition
anyway!!! It doesn’t mean you have to bring an entry for
everything you signed up for.

OUR VISION
A WORLD IN WHICH YOUTH AND ADULTS LEARN, GROW, AND WORK TOGETHER AS CATALYSTS FOR POSTIVE CHANGE
4-4-4H PLEDGE
Every June, over 1000 teenagers converge on the campus of Iowa State University for 3 days full of
speakers, workshops, mixers, dances, a banquet, and community service activities.
If you've completed 8th grade, you're eligible to attend.
You don't even have to be in 4-H to attend this conference! You will get to experience campus life, and
meet new people from across the state! You will be having fun while learning by doing, dancing the
nights away, and serving the community. You will get to learn new things to take back to your
community and school, and in the process you might even discover something new about yourself!
There are opportunities for you to share your talents with the rest of the delegation through small group
discussion, the Conference Chorus, and a Talent Show!
If you have a specific interest in animal science, you might want to look into becoming part of the
ROUND-UP track! We'll also have a special track devoted to agronomy, called CSI: Crops.
Please join us in June for the most incredible three days of your life at the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference!
We are now accepting registration for the 2013 Iowa 4-H Youth Conference--please see the side bars for
additional information! For additional information the website is:

2013 STATE FAIR 4-H SWINE SHOW UPDATE
The 2013 Iowa State Fair 4-H Swine Show will have some major changes occur. After much discussion and
careful consideration the Iowa 4-H Program will discontinue the 4-H Derby Swine Show at the Iowa State Fair
starting in 2013. The Iowa 4-H program is reviewing all its activities and events to ensure our resources are
aligned with the greatest possible impact on youth. In the future, our goal is to design and offer curriculum,
educational materials and events that best utilize staff time and result in our youth gaining the knowledge
and experience needed to be successful adults.
With this change, there will be no regional State Fair swine weigh-ins that typically occur near the end of
April. Instead, all State Fair swine ID will happen at the county level. ALL State Fair swine will still need a DNA
punch tag.
May 15th – IMPORTANT DEADLINE FOR ALL LIVESTOCK!!!!

in) animal type

 Writes down tag numbers on back of DNA envelope
 4-H’er and parent/guardian signs and seals the DNA envelope and returns
taggers and DNA envelopes to county office by May 15th
 By May 15th - 4-H’er then inputs all data for each pig into 4hOnline under
Swine (not weighed in) animal type (tag #, sex, breed, ear notch, etc.) (see
example image above)
 4-H’er must return taggers to county office as soon as finished tagging.

4-H’ERS FOR 4-H CAMPAIGN
The Iowa 4-Her’s for 4-H campaign is a fundraising campaign conducted by 4Her’s. The money donated by 4-H members stays in Iowa to help other 4-H youth.
Iowa 4-Her’s donate more money to their 4-H youth program than any other
state in the nation and we would like this tradition to continue!!
We are asking for each club to help us achieve this goal by donating $2.50 per
member. This year the funds will provide financial assistance for youth
participants to attend Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, summer 4-H camps, and
various leadership activities. It will also support activities at the Iowa 4-H Youth
Conference.
All clubs that meet the goal will receive a special campaign certificate. The
campaign begins March 1 and all contributions must be turned in to the
Extension Office by May 15th.
