Any person(s) or companies that are handling a significant portion of trip funds or arrangements need to be vetted. If there is more than one tour operator please provide this information about each such entity. Will this trip require a tour Yes No operator or guide service Please describe their services. If you are using a tour operator for the entire trip, during part of or for the please describe why you will be using them rather than doing this trip on your own: We are using a tour operator except for our 'free' day in Verona and our final day in entire trip? Venice. Otherwise, our operator will be supplying our guide, bicycles, luggage transfer, and support vehicle. Our guide will be fluent in all local languages, and is experienced with the routing and conditions of our daily rides. He or she will also be proficient in the local sites, customs and culture thus providing us much of the educational aspect of the trip. The two AMC leaders, having planned, negotiated and coordinated the logistics of arrival, will assist the operator's guide in keeping the cyclists in close proximity. Any cycling group of this size will inevitably split into two and possibly three groups. The AMC leaders will act as sweep and midpoint managers for the operator's guide. The nature of this itinerary, daily point to point riding, requires rigorous adherence to the routes and effective time management. With a group of this size, it would be risky and unnecessarily difficult to operate with less than 2 leaders supporting the tour guide. In addition, the chance of one leader becoming incapacitated, though hopefully remote, is still within the realm of possibility. Such an unfortunate event could impose an almost unmanageable burden and compromise the safety of the other participants. To spread the costs of a fully supported trip with two leaders, we have increased the min/max from thetraditional 12/14 to 14/16. Yes No Maximum amt: $ Are they willing to list AMC as an Yes No additional insured? Transportation to local hospitals at Bolzano, Verona, Vicenza, and Venice. Guide will have a cell phone in case of emergencies and 24x7 hoteline contact with their home office. Leaders will carry cell phones with international coverage. The operator's luggage van can function as well for emergency transportation. RISK ASSESSMENT Please assess the risks and hazards of your trip. Carefully consider each area of risk and how it may affect your trip. Devise a plan to prevent each hazard and to respond to it if it becomes necessary. Please be very specific for each section if applicable. Trail conditions, river crossings, weather, wildlife (bears, snakes, etc.) Climate/terrain Potential hazards The usual hazards of road biking. Response Road biking carries an inherent risk of injury due to falls or collision. The roads we will be using are 95% paved and often shared with car traffic. The trip leaders are WFA and CPR certified and will be carrying basic first aid kits and communications gear (cell phones). In addition, our biking tour guide will be always at hand with constant communication contact with the luggage van and their headquarters in case of emergency. Our tour guides are also fully first aid and CPR certified. Safety talks will precede each day’s ride, with the outfitters describing fully the road conditions that can be anticipated for the day and a review of emergency procedures in accordance with the outfitters’ and AMC leaders' established protocol. Bike helmets are mandatory at all times. Political concerns, crime, language translation, terrorism Foreign Country Potential hazards language/translation; no other political concerns or hazards are anticipated Response Italian is of course the language. Though neither leader speaks the language fluently, our bike tour guide will be capable of comunicating with the "locals". All of Italy is a popular touring country, and it can be expected that many local inhabitants, merchants, and especially emergency facilities, will be able to communicate in English if necessary. Our outfitters are fully fluent in English and our daily bike guide will be with us at all times to ensure that communications are not problematic. Road conditions, drivers, insurance Transportation Potential hazards Response We will not be driving Level of fitness, screening concerns, experience with equipment or activity Participants Potential hazards Appropriate level of fitness and riding experience for day road biking Response The level of riding is low-intermediate and through trip description and screening, we should be able to ascertain that the level of fitness is appropriate. It is more important for us to ascertain that our applicants are experienced with riding on roadways shared by motorists. Europeans, by and large, are more accustomed to sharing the road with cyclists, as long as the cyclists are consciously following the "rules of the road." We have chosen August as our time of year because the temperatures are mild so we do not anticipate any issues with extreme heat or heavy weather. Conditions unique to this type of trip Other Potential hazards This trip does not invoke any "high risk" activities and will take place in a populated region of the country. Response Daily reviews of road safety and techniques (hand/voice signals, rules of the road, etc.) will keep us mindful of riding safely to each destination while enjoying the culture and beauty of the region. EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN Please describe your plans for dealing with emergencies. Give as much detail as possible and list any special communications equipment you may need to ensure the safety of your participants. DO NOT LEAVE THIS BLANK Form Revised February 2014 Adventure Travel Trip Proposal Form, page 4 of 6 Biking Innsbruck to Venice: Hang a Left at Verona… Emergency communication Phone contacts, language, documentation, distance from emergency services Emergency equipment What sort of emergency first aid or communication equipment (satellite phone, two-way radios) do you plan to use, if any? Evacuation Please describe your plan for evacuation from the backcountry location if applicable? Medical care Please describe the medical care available in the area(s) where you will be traveling and list names and telephone numbers for these facilities. Dick Cable/Janis Stahlhut The leader and co-leader will be carrying cell phones; additionally, we will have landline phone and wifi contact at each hotel. Our guide will speak both English and Italian. We are less than one to two hours to medical services of hospital status at any point during the trip. Both leaders use AT&T international service when traveling abroad which offers a wide area of coverage in European countries. The area of Italy in which we will travel is not remote, so cell coverage is expected to be fairly abundant. In addition, our outfitter (guide and van driver) is equipped with communications gear that is specific to Italy as they maintain a base of operation in Italy. At no time will we be more than a few hours vehicle ride from a medical facility. Italy is a country where finding an English speaking person is never an extreme difficulty. Participants will carry passports and emergency medical documents at all times. Leaders will be equipped with waiver, emergency contact, and medical condition documents required for submission by all participants Both the leader and co-leader, as well as the bike guide, will be carrying first aid and tool kits as well as cell phones (described above). We do not anticipate the need to evaculate, but in such an extreme situation, our outfitters' evacuation plan will be used to move participants to safety. We will always be in radio contact with our guide and support vehicle, and we will not be in backcountry. Ospedale di Bolzano. Via Lorenz Bohler, 5. Bolzano BZ, Italy. +39 0471 908111. If a tour operator or agent is being used, what currency is the agent to be paid in? The cost of the trip from the outfitter is 1945 euros per person. This is an all inclusive price that includes hotels, breakfast and dinner, guide, support van, and bike rental. I have chosen an exchange rate of 1.30. The current exchange rate is 1.22 [It has been at 1.25 for several months, so I think 1.3 is a safe exchange to use.] This gives us a per person cost of $2528. A 1.5% transfer rate by TD Bank is approximately $38. Total: $2566.00. A notation will be contained in the prospectus that in the event that a dramatic change in exchange rate should occur, price will be adjusted accordingly. We have established the per person cost of the trip based on 14 participants. We have listed the price based on that number, but we would prefer to advertise with the 16 participant number as it is closer to $3800.
