Fly to Anchorage, spend one day there exploring Anchorage, shuttle to the beginning of Resurrection Pass trail and backpack 4 days, 3 nights. Shuttle to Seward, where we spend 3 days, taking boat tour to Kenai Fjord National Park and hiking. Return back to Anchorage and rent the car to drive to Wrangell – St. Elias national park where we do another backpack. We will have 2 evenings in the village of McCarthy where we have a chance to mingle with local people and learn about history and culture of McCarthy. M&C will be the primary navigation method. 2) Co-Leader exprience - took M&C class before, scheduled navigation hike in April of 2014 and planning on few more hikes to practice M&C. Conditions unique to this type of trip Very remote area with a lot of wildlife and no immediate access to hospitals/help. Bear Safety: 1 We will be hiking in a close group and not allow participants to become separated. (Groups of 3-4 for bio breaks) 2 While hiking, especially in heavy foliage areas, will make noise to announce our presence. 3 We will purchase 2 bear spray canisters. 4 Will keep campsite clear of food and food odors. Cooking and food storage (including toothpaste and other personal products) will be downwind away from campsite in bear canisters. 5 Leader has hiked in Canadian Rockies, Banff & Kotenay NPs, and practiced above except in the parks bear boxes were provided near each campsite and bear spray was not taken after conferring with rangers. Our group size and route suggested little chance of interaction with bears. Education Leaders will review bear country procedures with participants as part of pre-trip preparation (Brochures) and on the first evening in Anchorage. Therefore, if you cancel, your refund will be all that you have paid, less expenses already incurred and future expenses which can not be avoided. If you cancel and the trip still fully books, then your fees will be refunded in full with the exception that, after airline tickets have been purchased, you own the tickets and that part of the fee cannot be refunded.
