Form Revised July 2013
. It is a hiking trip, but with average altitudes peaking over 10000feet and more, we will
need to take it easy! The day hikes selected are not too strenuous or long nor do they
enter snow or ice covered high alpine zones. They are safe and easily accessible walks
for all levels. Our main walking area, Sorata is below 3000 meters and the lakeside
hikes at Titicaca are popular day walks between villages.
The reservattions are going to be a´group travel´ standard (not basic hostels or
backpacker inns). However, Bolivia is very much behind other parts of the world with
tourism infrastructure. Road networks are in poor condition, bus transport is ´rugged´
and slow.
Meals are simple yet nourishing. Most meals will be covered by trip cost and provided
through outfitter.
Private bus on Day 7. Private Bus and airplane on Day 10
Safari vehicle and lightweight boat on Day 11,. Airplane on Day 13
Will leaders be drivers?
Will volunteer participants be drivers?
If so, MVR checks will be needed. See Appendix S1.

and at elevations over 10,000 feet. Participants will be screened with application process,
phone calls, contacting past trip leaders. The participants must be able to demonstrate
that they can hike for 4-5 hours per day. A guideline for hiking abilities will be supplied
with the prospectus so participants can rate themselves. Leader/coleader will follow up
with AMC local chapter contacts to see if participants will be a good fit for this trip.

mission of the AMC?
www.outdoors.org/about/mission.cfm
This is a hiking and discovery trip, but we will aim to explore most of our
destinations on foot, leaving few stones unturned while at the same time, come
away adorned with knowledge of local history, culture, arts, gastronomy,
language and glimpses of every day life for Bolivianos.
TOUR OPERATOR AND GUIDE SERVICE INFORMATION
This section should be completed if the trip will be using a tour operator, outfitter, guide service, travel agency or
other such company or person(s) for a significant part of the trip or for the entire trip. Any person(s) or companies
that are handling a significant portion of trip funds or arrangements need to be vetted. If there is more than one
tour operator please provide this information about each such entity.

feel very confident with the outfitter and their experience as well as their safety record.
Outfitter will be able to provide a superior trip experience in Bolivia due to his intimate
knowledge of the area as well as his fluency of the local language. It will allow for a
seamless and pleasurable experience for the participants. His familiarity with the
country will allow for an enhanced experience by being able to explore regions of the
region few travelers have the opportunity to visit. The outfitter and guide have
conducted numerous trips to the area and are well acquainted with the local customs,
flora, fauna, trails, transportation etc. Guides who are familiar with the region can
provide an increased level of comfort to the group. Bolivia is not as readily accessible to
tourism as other parts of the world (ie Yosemite Valley; Neustift, Austria; Switzerland;
Tuscany etc) and the use of a well organized outfitter will maximize participants trip
enjoyment. AMC leaders will augment guide's services by educating participants in
"Leave No Trace" policies, trail safety, history and culture of Bolivia. AMC leaders will
assist in leading hikes, assist in hike selection based on condition of trails, participant
abilities and weather conditions.

Adventurebug employs a detailed emergency evacuation plan for all group events, tours
and expeditions . This program starts with ´on location´ first aid procedures followed by
´evacuation´ planning that involves accessing nearest medical support and finally, ´care
facility´ listing such as hospital or surgery nearest the locations of the tour / expedition.
This is all contained in one document that is carried by all leaders for easy access.
RISK ASSESSMENT
Please assess the risks and hazards of your trip. Carefully consider each area of risk and how it may affect your trip.
Devise a plan to prevent each hazard and to respond to it if it becomes necessary. Please be very specific for each section
if applicable.

Response
Utilize the services of an outfitter who is familiar with the country and terrain in order to
make our travel as safe as possible.

Participants
Potential hazards
Intermediate hiking skills required of all participants. Health conditions will dictate what
level participant will be allowed to hike. Must be a group player and not an individualist.
Response
Careful screening: application response, phone calls, chapter feedback, recent excursions
(local and ME/AT), list of hikes done in past 2 years. Participants will need to be up
front and accurate with all health conditions and medications. Participant must be a
group player, if not they will put the groups safety in jeopardy and this would not be
acceptable.

Each hike is a day hike, thus enough to obtain local assisatance if needed. In each of the
3 hiking destinations, the outfitter is in direct communication with the local emergency
services and their protocol for evacuations. The standard evacuation protocol is to alert
the NATIONAL POLICE services of Bolivia providing an accurate description of the
incident. This includes: location of incident, number of persons involved, severity of
incident, treatment of casualty(s), evacuation planning and timings.
Emergency Numbers:
National Police 120
National Ambulance 165
Bomberos (Fire and Rescue) 119
Lost and Found Services 138
RED CROSS BOLIVIA 2204121
Evacuation is in the form of foot, vehicle and airlift - all pending location and
availability of services. The outfitter is in contact with the infrastructure behind this
rescue protocol and cannot guarantee the availability of them given the remoteness and
low level of resources available in a country as poor as Bolivia.
