POSITION TITLE: REPORTS TO: Chickasaw County Youth Coordinator Chickasaw County Extension Council, ISU Extension Region 4 Youth Program Coordinator, and Chickasaw County Office Manager CLASSIFICATIONS: Non-Exempt REVISED: May 2015 POSITION SUMMARY: This position provides assistance to Iowa State University Extension & Outreach (ISUEO) in Chickasaw County and to the Chickasaw County Extension Council for organization and delivery of K-12 4-H youth development programming. Program delivery modes include clubs, camps, school, events and after school in conjunction with office responsibilities, volunteer management, building partners and managing resources. The position requires knowledge of ISUEO, county policies and 4-H. Full time, 40 hours per week, hourly wage rate, some weekend, overnight and evening work required. Directly responsible to Region 4 Youth Program Coordinator, Chickasaw County Office Manager and the Chickasaw County Extension Council. Follow Extension Council & Iowa State University Extension and Outreach administrative guidelines. QUALIFICATIONS: Post-secondary degree preferred. Knowledge and experience in 4-H preferred. Experience equivalent to one year of full-time employment Excellent organizational skills, strong communication skills, written and verbal, computer skills. Demonstrate interest in youth and volunteer leadership, ability to work with a team. Capable of delegating tasks and coordinating volunteer efforts Conflict management skills Ability to work with minimal supervision. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Employment contingent on successful screening in Child Protection Safety Program. RESPONSIBILITES: Program Development/Maintenance Develop the annual Chickasaw County 4-H Action Plan and deliver programs for K-12 youth audiences. Identify potential youth audiences according to county and regional goals. Create educational programs aligned with 4-H Program Priorities. Implement educational programs designed by professional staff. Collaborate with the 4-H Farm Safety Day Coordinator to deliver a strong safety program. Provide leadership for ensuring 4-H materials are ordered, organized, and distributed. Assist and maintain youth enrollments through 4-H Online, electronic database and compile data/prepare year-end reports in a timely manner. Evaluate programs needs and volunteers. Organize and deliver county and multi-county 4-H events and activities with volunteers and other staff. Page 1 Coordinate forms and correspondence for regional and state events and opportunities such as National 4-H Conference, State Conference, State Council selections, Animal Science Roundup, and State Awards selections. Coordinate leaders and project trainings for county. Provide leadership for planning, implementation, and delegating of 4-H/FFA responsibilities at the Chickasaw County Achievement Show. Fiscally responsible to manage programs within the county 4-H budget. Supervise activities of 4-H Youth Summer Program Assistant. Work with Office staff in team environment. Other similar or related duties as assigned by the Chickasaw County Extension Council. Volunteer and Youth Development Recruit and screen volunteers for various roles and activities. Orientate and train volunteers with professional development experiences. Provide leadership for Chickasaw County 4-H Youth Development Committee and 4-H County Council. Work with Fair Board and community partners. Communication/Relationships Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other groups, agencies, and organizations. Gather and prepare information to submit to media regarding programs, activities, events, and members. Maintain correspondence with 4-H members, leaders, Extension support staff, and the public. This will include news releases, newsletter, social media, etc. Resource Development Utilize 4-H Youth Development Committee to secure public/private program and financial support. Monitor daily work for adherence to policies/procedures and promptly correct any deficiencies. Constantly improves skills needed to carry out the job responsibilities o attends seminars, classes, etc. at county expense to develop skills o computer skills and to upgrade other skills needed to carry out the job responsibilities Cross-train to know the basics of other County-paid staff jobs ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors in an office setting and outdoors in a variety of community settings, with adults and youth of all ages Ability to lift 40 pounds and other physical activities as necessary. For example: bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing. Must have unimpeded or corrected vision and hearing to perform the work.
