This trip is designed to appeal to those interested in experiencing highlights of New
Zealand including Auckland, Queenstown, the Milford Track, Mt. Cook area, and
Christchurch. Itinerary is as follows:
2/8 Fly into Auckland. Transfer provided to Scenic. Free day in Auckland. Participant
meals on own.
2/9 Breakfast and lunch on own. Visit to Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic exhibit included. 2nd
night stay in Scenic Hotel. Group dinner at Sky Tower.

LOGISTICAL DETAILS OF TRIP
2/10 Transport and Flight from Auckland to Heartland Hotel Queensland. Lunch on own.
Free time until 4:45pm when we are required to attend a Pre-Track Briefing the Ultimate
Hikes Centre, Ground Floor, The Station Building, Queenstown at 4:45pm. Group dinner
at Flame Bar & Grill.
2/11 Breakfast and lunch on own. Coach from Queenstown to TeAnau Downs, stopping
for lunch at lakeside village of to Te Anau. After lunch drive to Te Anau Downs for the
boat.From the wharf, we start the Milford Track with short easy walk to historic Glade
House, where we stay our 1st night of the Track. (Milford Track night #1 Glade House)
2/12 We start the day by crossing Clinton River and wandering through unique beech
forest to Hirere Falls, where we have lunch. After crossing the Prairie, the track gets a
little steeper as we climb up to Pompolona Lodge. Today’s highlights include distinctive
beech forest, all sorts of spectacular plants and stunning views up the ice-carved Clinton
Canyon toward McKinnon Pass. (Milford Night #2 Pompolona Lodge)
2/13 Today is the most spectacular day of the Milford Track! We climb a series of

switchbacks to cross McKinnon Pass. From the top of the pass, the views of the Arthur
Valley and the surrounding peaks are just magnificent. We’ll lunch at Pass Hut, then
head down the pass to Quintin Lodge. Once we’ve arrived, those who are keen can take a
90-minute round trip to see the Sutherland Falls, the fifth highest waterfall in the world.

2/14 This is the last day on the track. It’s 13 miles (21km) of varied terrain, slightly
downhill, with no significant climbing. he small waterfalls to be found just off the track
make for a delightful day. We'll be picked up at Sandfly Point this afternoon for a short
cruise to the jetty, and arrive at Mitre Peak Lodge for the last night in Milford Sound.

2/15 Breakfast included. Take coach to Heartland Hotel in Queenstown. Included is a
visit to Kiwi Birdlife Park & replica Maori village. Lunch on own. Group dinner at Pier
19.
2/16 Breakfast on own. Coach to 1 night stay at Hermitage Mt. Cook. Lunch included
and dinner on own. Options include hiking, a zodiac boat ride amongst glaciers, and
visiting the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre.

Ultimatehikes.co.nz is the exclusive outfitter for the Milford Track. The education the
guides supply on the track is unsurpased in New Zealand. In addition, we will have
access to extensive resources at the Hermitage Mt. Cook regarding hiking, history, and
mountain conservation.there will be the opportunity to learn about endangered species
and invasive and non-indigenous flora and fauna that have changed NZ over the years.

We are only using a tour operator for the Milford Track. It is required we use the
exclusive vendor Ultimate Hikes New Zealand for the guided hike and accomodations.

In some cases, the fully funded New Zealand Government accident compensation
scheme know as ACC (the Accident Compensation Corporation) will cover medical and
other costs related to a personal injury incurred while in New Zealand. However, we can
not guarantee that such costs will be covered by ACC, and STRONGLY RECOMMEND
all walkers carry their own medical/travel insurance while on our walk to cover any
medical and/ or related costs (eg helicopter off the track, hospital care, accommodation,
missed flights, etc). Will check about Liability Insurance.

Guides ae fully trained in first and and have radio contact with base. Helicopter off the
track if needed.
Milford Track guides have radio access and will arrange for Helicopter transport if
necessary. All other locations we have access to motor vechicle transport.
Country-wide emergency services phone number is 111. Leader and CL will carry full
first aid kits and the rangers in the huts are also trained in wilderness first aid.

As of 1/8/2011, $1 New Zealand dollar is worth about $.7596 US. All accommodations,
food, and ground transportation will be paid in NZD, sometimes in advance from the US.
Air New Zealand is paid in U.S. dollars. We expect to be able to use charge cards and
ATM machines for everything we need to pay there, rather than having to carry cash into
the country. Our budget allows a reasonable contingency, to be refunded (of course) if
not needed.
Air New Zealand requires a deposit of $100 per seat at the time we make our reservation.
Ultimate Hikes requires payment in full for the Milford when we make the reservations
in July. Hotels reservations are fully refundable up to 30 days before the trip and rooms
are held by leaders via credit card and not charged until the trip is underway.
Air New Zealand is refundable up until 60 days prior to departurre. Milford Track
Refund:Outside 90 days from date of walk departure: Refund less NZ$100 per
personBetween 89-60 days from date of walk departure: NZ$200 per person, Between
59-21 days from date of walk departure: 50% of full fare
Within 21 days of date of walk departure:100% of full fare
Hotels: 100% refund available up to 30 days prior to departure.
Initial Deposit $1000 US. Airline payment balance approx $400 U.S. and Milford Track
$1995 NZ due by July 1, 2011. After 7/1/2001, any new particpant deposit will include
both $1995 NZ for Milford Track and $1400 US for Airline. Final trip balance due
12/31/2011.
