Executive summary
Please provide a brief
description of the trip and the
activities planned.
Day hikes ranging from 5-10 miles with elev. gains up to 2000 feet in Zion, Bryce,
Arches and Canyonlands and possible State or BLM lands as well. We will be staying 23 nights at each major hiking area to allow participants to experience the uniqueness of
each park by doing 2 or more hikes in each, but also maximize the number of areas
visited.

This trip is designed for participants to experience the natural history, flora and fauna of

RISK ASSESSMENT

Written and verbal instruction will be given to participants stating they must wear and or
bring appropriate hiking gear . We will check gear prior to each hike. Leader or co-leader will
be present at all scheduled hikes. Extra water, sunscreen and a first aid kit will be brought on
all planned outings/hikes. Check weather forecasts and park headquarters postings night and
morning, particularly for canyon hikes or where water crossings are involved. Particular care
will be exercised in Zion before attempting the Zion Narrows hike.

Drivers will be used on a voluntary basis and given written/verbal instruction on safety
procedures. Any driver not complying will have driving privileges removed. In addition to
giving verbal instruction regarding driver responsibiilites and driving conditions, leaders will
distribute a written policy regarding expectations including restrictions regarding drinking
alcoholic beverages when operating as a designated driver.

Hiking accidents are a potential. Some participants may have health issues or overrate their
hiking ability.

Cell phones may be used on planned day trips for easy access to emergency services. Careful
screening of previous hiking experience and medical records. In addition, doctor’s notes are
requested as deemed necessary.

Reserve hotels with credit card only after minimum trip numbers have been met
30-60 days in advance of trip for hotels; airlines non-refundable once tickets purchased subject
to whatever rules are in place at time of purchase.
$800 initial deposit at time of registration. $1400 Balance of trip fees due May 1.
Cancellation must be in writing - Postmarked date below:
Cancellations prior to April 15th will be entitled to a refund on money deposited with the
AMC less a minimum administration charge of $100 plus the cost of air ticket if already issued.
These tickets are non-refundable except for serious illness substantiated by a doctor’s letter. All
other moneys returned
After April 15 - All moneys returned except:
a) same as above; and
b) Any moneys paid out to vendors and money necessary to keep the trip cost from
increasing - causing an increase for other trip members (example: having to pay for a double
room for a single person).
After September 1 - NO REFUNDS for any reason, including accident, illness, or any other
type of emergency.
Note: Sometimes additional moneys may be returned at a later date, if a cancellee’s spot can be
filled from the waiting list. This depends upon two factors:
1. That the trip is filled - 12 participants (in addition to the leaders).
2. That there is a waiting list. The list is compiled by leaders through the application/
