Executive summary

description of the trip and the
activities planned.
This trip will involve snowshoeing inside Glacier National Park (GNP) and a van-based
raptor viewing safari in Mission Valley with the Glacier Institute (GI) providing the field
course instructors and the transportation. The GI, www.glacierinstitute.org, offers handson, field based experiences in collaboration with GNP. This trip includes day-long
courses in Glacier that are led by a GI instructor, and accompanied by a GI staff member,
while snowshoeing on Glacier's trails, or by the roadside in Mission Valley. GI works
with the leaders to ensure a balance that allows learning while snowshoeing.

If yes, please describe below what you will do:
I will schedule an optional snowshoe trip for participants in January of '09 at an AMC
lodge.
The educational component is the highlight of this trip. This trip offers field-based
programs unparalleled on most major excursions. By working with the Glacier Institute,
AMC can offer an approved trip that fits within GNP's regulations. We will have a GI
naturalist along as well as the field course experts to answer questions. This is
wonderful snowshoeing, with the added benefit of learning along the trail and by the
roadside with the raptor viewing safari segment.

Please describe their services. If you are using a tour operator for the entire trip,
please describe why you will be using them rather than doing this trip on your own:
Glacier National Park does not allow the AMC to hike inside the park without using
their one approved outfitter or an approved educational partner. The Glacier Institute is
an approved educational partner. It's mission is similar to the AMC's and they allow our
group to stay at their facilities.
