Executive summary Please provide a brief description of the trip and the activities planned. This trip will involve snowshoeing inside Glacier National Park (GNP) and a van-based raptor viewing safari in Mission Valley with the Glacier Institute (GI) providing the field course instructors and the transportation. The GI, www.glacierinstitute.org, offers handson, field based experiences in collaboration with GNP. This trip includes day-long courses in Glacier that are led by a GI instructor, and accompanied by a GI staff member, while snowshoeing on Glacier's trails, or by the roadside in Mission Valley. GI works with the leaders to ensure a balance that allows learning while snowshoeing. In Columbia Falls the Glacier Park Motel will provide a bagel breakfast including hot oatmeal, sack lunches will be provided daily by a local deli, and dinners with a meal allotment will be at each of a variety of local restaurants. In Mission Valley we will eat at the Ninepipes Lodge for breakfast and dinner (again with a dinner meal allotment) and get sack lunches from a local deli. The educational component is the highlight of this trip. This trip offers field-based programs unparalleled on most major excursions. By working with the Glacier Institute, AMC can offer an approved trip that fits within GNP's regulations. We will have a GI naturalist along as well as the field course experts to answer questions. This is wonderful snowshoeing, with the added benefit of learning along the trail and by the roadside with the raptor viewing safari segment.
