This unit is about how you should talk
about yourself at an interview.
這個部份是關於你應該怎麼樣在面試時談論
自己。
The interviewers may want to know
something about you,meaning
your personality and/or other innate
attributes.
面試者能想知道關於你的一些事情。
那些事是指你的個性和／或其他先天
的特性。
Learn how to express those things and
make them relate to your expertise.
學習如何表達那些事情並且使它們與你的
專長有關。

There’s a receptionist at the front
desk.
有一個接待員在櫃檯。
Manager Wang is waiting in his
office with senior engineer Yoshida.
王經理與資深工程師Yoshida在他的辦
公室等候。
Joseph: Hello,my name is Joseph
Lee. I am here for a job interview
with Manager Wang.
Joseph：你好，我的名字叫Joseph李。
我來是為了一份工作與王經理的面試。
Receptionist: One moment,sir. I’ll just
check and see if they’re ready to see
you.
接待員：稍等片刻，先生。我將要確認並
且看他們是否準備好和你面試。
Receptionist picks up the
phone and calls Wang’s office.
接待員拿起電話並打給王經理的
辦公室。
Receptionist: (on the telephone)
Mr.Wang,your five o’clock
appointment,a Mr.Joseph Lee,is
here.Yes,sir.
接待員：（在電話上）王先生，一位
Joseph李先生，在五點鐘與你有約。是的
先生。
(hangs up) They are expecting
you,go straight down the hall, it’s the
first office on your right hand side.
（掛電話）他們正在等著你來，沿著走
廊直走，就在你的右手邊的第一間辦公
室。
Joseph: Thank you.
Joseph：謝謝你。
Joseph knocks on the door.
Joseph敲門.
Wang: Come in,please.Ah,good
afternoon Joseph,this is our senior
engineer,Mr.Yoshida.
Wang：請進。啊，午安Joseph，這是
我們的高級工程師Yoshida先生。
Joseph: Good
afternoon,Mr.Wang,Mr.Yoshida...sir
Joseph：午安，Wang先生、Yoshida先生…。
Wang: Relax,Joseph.Take a seat.You seem a
little tense. Do not worry yourself too much,we
read your portfolio and we liked it,that’s why
your’re here.
Wang：放輕鬆Joswph。坐下。你似乎有點緊張。你
不要過分的擔心，我們讀過你的作品集而且我們很喜
歡，那是你為何在這裡的原因。
We wanted you here because we want to
know a little bit about what’s not on paper. So
why don’t you tell us a little bit about yourself.
我們要你來這是因為我們想知道一些沒有在
文件上的事。所以你何不告訴我們一些你的
事？
Joseph: Thank you,sir.Um...my name is Joseph
Lee,I’m from Taichung.I will be graduating from the
Southern Taiwan University this year.
Joseph：謝謝你，長官。嗯…我的名字叫Joseph Lee，
我來自台中。我今年將會從南台科技大學畢業。
I have studied really hard because I like
what I do very much.I’ve participated in
several student projects there and most of
them were tutored by Professor Goldman.
我很努力踏實的學習因為我非常喜歡我做的
事。我參加了幾個學生專題，大都是為
Goldman教授輔導的。
Yoshida: Yes,I noticed that.I know Goldman from
grad school when we were lab partners.
Yoshida：對，我也注意到那件事了.
我是從研究所當實驗伙伴時認識Goldman的.
I know that he is a man very difficult to impress,
but somehow you pulled it off. I’m sure his
recommendation is well-founded.
我知道他是一個非常難以銘刻的人，但由於某些原
因你做到了.我確定他的推薦是有理由的.
Joseph:

Joseph：謝謝
Wang: Joseph, we have hundreds of
applicants who want this job. And many of
them, like yourself, are very talented and
some even with experience in the industry.
Wang：Joseph，我們有數以百計的申請人都
想要這份工作而且他們很多就像你自己一樣，
很有才幹甚至在行業中有經驗告訴我.
Tell me, why should I hire you? What is
it about you, aside from your
professional expertise that makes you
the preferable choice for this company?
我為什麼要僱用你?除了你的專門知識之外，
你對自己還有什麼看法，可以你成為公司
較佳的人選?
Joseph: Well, I think that my advantage over
the other applicants is that not only am I a
good worker, I am also a creative thinker.My
strength lies in my thinking process.
Joseph:我認為我比其他申請者更有的優勢是我不只
是一個好的工作者我也是一個創造性的思想家。 我的
長處在於我的思維過程。
Although I do not have that much
experience in the industry, I am young,
energetic,and innovative.
雖然我並沒有在該行業中的許多經驗，
但是我年輕、 有活力，和創新。
As you can see from my portfolio, I not only
utilized the conventional methods but also
found out new procedures to boost efficiency
正如您從我的作品集所看到我不僅利用傳統的
方法，也發現新的程序，以提高效率，
and at the same time lower production
cost. That I believe is good for the
company.I’m also a very friendly and
outgoing person.
同時降低生產成本。 我相信這對公司是
好的。 我也是一個非常友善和外向的人。
I’m a team player and very easy to work with.
That’s always a bonus for office morale. On top
of all that, I am passionate and I care about
what I do.
我是一個有合作精神的人而且非常容易相處。
這總是對辦公室士氣有利的。最重要的是，我
是熱心而且我在意我所做的事。
That I think is my most important
attribute. For those reasons, I believe
that I am the stronger pick.
我認為這是我最重要的特性。由於那些
理由，我相信我是這工作一個強力選擇。
Yoshida: Well,you have very good spirit.
Yoshida:很好，你非常有鬥志.
Wang: Alright, Joseph, I think I’ll move you
on to become one of the finalists. My secretary
will contact you as soon as decision is made.
Wang:極好的，Joseph，我認為我將把你往前推進

Joseph: Thank you, sir. The pleasure is
