This unit is about how you should talk about yourself at an interview.
The interviewers may want to know something about you,meaning
your personality and/or other innate attributes.Learn how to express
those things and make them relate to your expertise.
Joseph is at Hasegawa Tech. There’s a receptionist at the front desk.
Manager Wang is waiting in his office with senior engineer Yoshida.
這個部份是關於你應該怎麼樣在面試時談論自己。面試者能想知道關
於你的一些事情。那些事是指你的個性和／或其他先天的特性。學習
如何表達那些事情並且使它們與你的專長有關。Joseph 到了
Hasegawa Tech。有一個接待員在櫃檯。王經理與資深工程師 Yoshida
在他的辦公室等候。
Joseph:
Hello,my name is Joseph Lee. I am here for a job interview with
Manager Wang.
Joseph：你好，我的名字叫 Joseph 李。我來是為了一份工作與王經理的面試。
Receptionist: One moment,sir. I’ll just check and see if they’re ready to see you.
接待員：稍等片刻，先生。我將要確認並且看他們是否準備好和你面試。
Receptionist picks up the phone and calls Wang’s office.
接待員拿起電話並打給王經理的辦公室。
Receptionist: (on the telephone) Mr.Wang,your five o’clock appointment,a
Mr.Joseph Lee,is here.Yes,sir.(hangs up) They are expecting you,go
straight down the hall, it’s the first office on your right hand side.
接待員：：（在電話上）王先生，一位 Joseph 李先生，在五點鐘與你有約。是的
先生。
（掛電話）他們正在等著你來，沿著走廊直走，就在你的右手邊的第一間
辦公室。
Joseph: Thank you.
Joseph：謝謝你。
Joseph knocks on the door.
Joseph 敲門
Wang:
Come in,please.Ah,good afternoon Joseph,this is our senior
engineer,Mr.Yoshida.
Wang：請進。啊，午安Joseph，這是我們的高級工程師Yoshida先生。
Joseph:
Good afternoon,Mr.Wang,Mr.Yoshida...sir
Joseph：午安，Wang 先生、Yoshida 先生…。
Wang:
Relax,Joseph.Take a seat.You seem a little tense. Do not worry
yourself too much,we read your portfolio and we liked it,that’s why
your’re here. We wanted you here because we want to know a little bit
about what’s not on paper. So why don’t you tell us a little bit about
yourself.
Wang：放輕鬆Joswph。坐下。你似乎有點緊張。你不要過分的擔心，我們讀過
你的作品集而且我們很喜歡，那是你為何在這裡的原因。我們要你來

Joseph:
Thank you,sir.Um...my name is Joseph Lee,I’m from Taichung.I
will be graduating from the Southern Taiwan University this year.I
have studied really hard because I like what I do very much.I’ve
participated in several student projects there and most of them were
tutored by Professor Goldman.
Joseph：謝謝你，長官。嗯…我的名字叫 Joseph Lee，我來自台中。我今年將會從
南台科技大學畢業。我很努力踏實的學習因為我非常喜歡我做的事。我參加了幾
個學生專題，大都是為 Goldman 教授輔導的。
Yoshida:
Yes,I noticed that.I know Goldman from grad school when we were
lab partners. I know that he is a man very difficult to impress, but
somehow you pulled it off. I’m sure his recommendation is
well-founded.
Yoshida：對，我也注意到那件事了

Wang:
Joseph, we have hundreds of applicants who want this job. And many
of them, like yourself, are very talented and some even with experience
in the industry. Tell me, why should I hire you? What is it about you,
aside from your professional expertise that makes you the preferable
choice for this company?
Wang：Joseph，我們有數以百計的申請人都想要這份工作
而且他們很多就像你自己一樣，很有才幹甚至在行業中有經驗
告訴我，我為什麼要僱用你?
除了你的專門知識之外，你對自己還有什麼看法，可以讓你成為公司較佳的人選?
Joseph:
Well, I think that my advantage over the other applicants is that not
only am I a good worker, I am also a creative thinker.My strength lies
in my thinking process.Although I do not have that much experience
in the industry, I am young, energetic,and innovative. As you can see
from my portfolio, I not only utilized the conventional methods but
also found out new procedures to boost efficiency and at the same time
lower production cost. That I believe is good for the company.
I’m also a very friendly and outgoing person. I’m a team player and
very easy to work with. That’s always a bonus for office morale. On
top of all that, I am passionate and I care about what I do. That I think
is my most important attribute. For those reasons, I believe that I am
the stronger pick.
Joseph:我認為我比其他申請者更有的優勢是我不只是一個好的工作者我也是
一個創造性的思想家。 我的長處在於我的思維過程。雖然我並沒有在該行業中
的許多經驗，但是我年輕、 有活力，和創新。 正如您從我的作品集所看到我不
僅利用傳統的方法，也發現新的程序，以提高效率，同時降低生產成本。 我相
信這對公司是好的。 我也是一個非常友善和外向的人。 我是一個有合作精神的
人而且非常容易相處。 這總是對辦公室士氣有利的。最重要的是，我是熱心而
且我在意我所做的事。我認為這是我最重要的特性。 由於那些理由，我相信我
是這工作一個強力選擇。
Yoshida: Well,you have very good spirit.
Yoshida:很好，你非常有鬥志.
Wang:
Alright, Joseph, I think I’ll move you on to become one of the finalists.
My secretary will contact you as soon as decision is made. Thank
you for coming today. It was very nice meeting you.
Wang:極好的，Joseph，我認為我將把你往前推進成為最後人選之一.

Joseph:
Thank you, sir. The pleasure is mine. And thank you for giving me the
