New programs developed for the Doctorate of
education, Health and Society (A&S) and Health
Sciences (GPS) and minors in entrepreneurship and
computational thinking
Rollout ready for the new general education
curriculum– Doane Core Connections – and its
sequence of liberal arts seminars in SAS and GPS
The School of Graduate and Professional Studies
opened its new location in Omaha in January.

Gentry Doane, majoring in German and Spanish with a minor in
Communication Studies, has been awarded a Fulbright
Scholarship in Germany in 2014-15.
Doane team to the City of Knowledge in Panama in July 2013
has led to faculty-led service and learning trips for students in
May 2015
Doane Choir of 40 sang concerts in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania,
and Poland, attended a performance of The Barber of Seville at
the Lithuanian national Opera, and toured the birthplace of
Frederic Chopin.

Doane students studied abroad in 15 countries on six continents including
sites in Argentina, Australia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, England,
France, Germany, Ghana, India, Ireland, Italy, Morocco, Spain, and Taipei.
Jan Willems, Dir. of International Programs led faculty on exploratory trips to
Panama, the Yucatan Peninsula, and to the Czech republic
President Carter signed Doane’s first international agreement with a Chinese
University, the Agricultural University of Hebei, to bring students to Doane in
2+2 and 3+1
President Carter signed Presidents’ Climate Commitment to accelerate
progress towards sustainability by empowering students, faculty and staff to
create solutions, and provide leadership-by-example for the rest of society.
Faculty Accomplishments
Deryl Merritt, A.R. Kinney Endowed Chair in Business, formed
four “student consulting teams” in his Small Business
Management course that were employed by four Crete area
businesses during the fall semester of 2013.
Evelyn Haller, Professor of English and Chair of the Fine
Arts/Humanities Division, presented a paper at the Willa Cather
in Rome Symposium in Italy June 9-12. Her paper is entitled
“Willa Victrix: Cather’s Triumphal Use of the Matter of Rome.”
Andrea Holmes, Assoc. Professor of Chemistry and Tessa Durham
Brooks Assistant Professor of Biology have been selected as new
investigators for the next NSF-EPSCoR Big Data program.
Faculty Accomplishments
Kim Jarvis, Associate Professor of History held the Ardis Butler
James Endowed Chair for the Advancement of the Liberal and
Fine Arts for the 2013-2014. Jarvis’ project is an environmental
history of the state of New Hampshire between World War II and
the 1970s.
Heather Lambert, Associate Professor of Psychology, was the
Keynote speaker at the "Justice for All Conference" hosted by
the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Lambert’s sabbatical
research and work resulted in the development of the Heartland
Campus Safety Summit for colleges and universities preventing
and responding to gender-based violence (held at the University of
Missouri-Kansas City in the fall of 2013).
Faculty Accomplishments
Susan Rocker, director of Career Development, launched the Doane
College Mentoring Project. The project provides short term
mentoring to current students and recent graduates of the Doane
Lincoln campus by College alumni who have established
themselves in their careers.
Dr. Kate Marley has been appointed as Associate Vice President for
Academic Affairs
We hired new full-time positions in graphic design (Meghan Gaul)
and sociology (Kari Gentzler) for this fall.
Athletics 2013-2014
2nd in All-Sports Standings for the 3rd straight year
9 of 19 athletic teams competed NAIA National
Championships last year
15 of 19 athletic teams received the NAIA Scholar Team
Award (minimum average GPA 3.0)
Athletics 2013-2014 continued
Student-athletes posted a cumulative GPA of 3.15 in
2013-14
2014 Baseball team was the 1st team in GPAC history to
go undefeated in conference play
Hosted the NAIA Women's Golf National
Championships for the 2nd consecutive year

Outreach - Community BBQ was a direct result of this position
Established New Partnership with a Chinese University and
Admitted First Chinese Students for this Fall Semester

A Faculty committee has been evaluating the potential
educational impact and devices for a proposed student/faculty
mobile initiative for next fall.

Website renovations that make this a much better tool in recruitment of
students
New advertising campaigns that include TV commercials, billboards,
print, social media, radio, movie theater ads and wrapping of city buses
Marketing partnerships with community events that range from
Children's Hospital in Omaha to building basketball courts in Rosalie
NE to Girls on the Run which helps develop positive life skills for local
youth
Seeking to Hire a New Digital Marketing Specialist to incorporate
more video content into our communications channels of recruitment
allowing us to tell stories of Doane College in a much more compelling
way

Alumni Relations
Restructured Advancement re-directing additional staff time to
personal contact with alumni and potential donors
Increased unrestricted giving to the Doane Fund by 13.3.%
Completed a feasibility study to help identify fundraising
priorities and projects having the greatest potential to impact
campus in the next 1-2 years
Student Leadership
Established College to Career Center and hired
a full-time Internship Coordinator.
Initiated a Leadership Studies minor
Established theme communities living option in the residence
halls
