As I softly come by; Silently I wave good-bye To the clouds in the sky. The golden willows by the river Are brides in the sunset; Their shadows reflect the flickering waves Loiter in my heart. The emerald grass growing from the soil Sway lightly under the water; In the gentle embrace of Cambridge I would be a water grass! The pond under the elm trees Isn’t full of water but of rainbows from the sky; Shattered among the duckweeds Is this a dream about rainbows? Finding dreams? Just poling a boat Floating to a place of greener grass Or to have load the boat with starlight And singing under the brilliance of the starlight. But I cannot sing Silence is the music of my departure Even the insects of the summer hush for me Silent the Cambridge of tonight is! Softly I leave As softly as I arrived; Gently I wave my sleeves Not leaving even a wisp of a cloud
