SPC Reads presents Into The Wild “Digiku”-- Digital Haiku Photo Contest: What is Wilderness? Words and pictures can be more powerful than either alone. Haiku photography is the art of harmonizing timeless images and poetry. Part 1: The Photo: Use a digital camera to take a photo that represents an item from the following list, or choose your own topic, within the theme of wilderness, inspired by the book Into the Wild. darkness trees adventure soft sky shadow blue balance water alive earth living balance small green Part 2: The Poem: Haiku is a type of poetry from the Japanese culture. Haiku combines form, content, and language in a meaningful, yet compact form. The most common form for Haiku, and the form used in this contest, is three short lines. The first line contains five (5) syllables, the second line seven (7) syllables, and the third line contains five (5) syllables (see example below) Contest Guidelines 1) Contest is open to any SPC student 2) Both the photo and poem must be your own work. Plagiarized entries will be automatically disqualified. 3) Entries must be sent as 2 attachments, electronically, in any of the following formats: Photo: jpeg, or gif. Poem: .doc, .rtf, docx Submit to: spcdigiku@gmail.com SPC Reads presents Into The Wild 6) Entries will be judged on adherence to the current challenge topic, “Wilderness,” as well as creativity, originality, and technique. 7) Photography equipment will not be a criterion for rating a photo. 8) All entries will be judged by a panel of faculty members 9) All entries must be submitted by March 30, 2009 to spcdigiku@gmail.com 10) Please keep entries suitable for viewing by all ages as they may be displayed in the library and other public areas. Release: By entering the Contest, each Entrant releases and holds harmless the Sponsor, and representatives from any and all damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses of any kind. Individuals submitting photos into the contest retain full rights to their photos, including ownership, but through the act of participation (entering a photo into our contest) will also grant SPC the rights to reproduce, distribute, and display the submitted photos.
