Entry and Form Information
Eligibility
This show is open to NH 4-H members 12-18 years old on January 1 who have qualified in their county as
a delegate or alternate. All must enter by deadline, delegates must include fees, and alternates will pay
upon arrival at show if they participate. Alternates may be used as replacements as long as they are on
the grounds Friday evening to take the written quiz with other exhibitors and their horse must be on the
grounds prior to their scheduled first class. No post entries will be permitted. Exhibitor must show the
same horse and show in the same discipline as in the Qualifying Show. In the event of an illness or

substituted, provided that horse appeared on the youth’s “Intent to Show” form on or before May 1.
How to Enter
Each exhibitor, alternate, and stable manager must complete entry forms linked below. Entries are due
in to the State 4-H Office by July 6, 2016 or immediately after County Show.
Please check with your county about how they want you to submit your entries and payment. All checks
need to be made payable to UNH Cooperative Extension; most counties collect funds and pay with one
county check. You can find your County 4-H contact information here:
http://extension.unh.edu/Counties
An exhibitor must have an Intent to Show Form (or online version) completed by May 1 for the horse
entered; ESE rules require Intent to Show to be completed by April 1 for ESE eligibility.

rental of the grounds, stalls and other costs. Entry fees must be sent with entries. Make check or money
order payable as directed by your county to the county or the UNH Cooperative Extension. No refunds
will be granted unless Mary Davis is notified in writing via email at Mary.Davis@unn.edu at least 48

Horse may be owned or managed by exhibitor and exhibitor is solely responsible for the horse at this
event. Members are expected to care for their animals by themselves or with the help of other
competing members. Adults may help load and unload, and help members on arrival 3:00 p.m. on
Friday, July 15. Tack and feed rooms and decorations may be set up with assistance from adults prior to
the start of the show. No adult is allowed to assist with the preparation of any horse. With the exception
of disability accommodations, members receiving outside assistance in caring for an animal or preparing
for a class will be disqualified after one warning from the superintendent. Stable managers may assist a
rider by holding their horse while the rider does the work. Exhibitors may assist each other in the
holding area before a class, if needed.
County Stable Managers/Show Assistant
Each county may bring up to ten non-competing 4-H members to serve as County Stable Managers;
counties may bring one additional stable manager per 3 competitors over 30. Additional youth may be
selected to serve as a show office assistant to perform duties related to show management. Interested

youth may contact Mary Davis (Mary.Davis@unh.edu). Stable managers & show assistants must be
current 4-H members enrolled in the horse program. They may assist with all duties except riding,
exercising, or preparation for a class. Stable Managers must complete an entry form and send it to their
county/or the State 4-H Office. All stable managers must enter Quiz and Judging. Stable managers must
be on the grounds for the duration of the event. Stable Manager must pay $10.00 entry fee.
Supervision
Each county will appoint one screened 4-H leader to serve as the official county chaperone to coordinate

responsible for assigning stalls and overseeing sleeping arrangements. Each county may make their own
sleeping arrangements and must provide adequate chaperones. Boys and girls must have separate
sleeping quarters. The chaperones must also sleep in the designated area with their delegates and must
see that the members in the dormitory have chaperones as well. Counties must provide the show
management with a list of those in campers and their chaperones, and those in the dorm and their

the show (Wed July 6, 2016, 7 PM). Counties without chaperones must work make arrangements with
another county to take responsibility for their delegate(s).
County chaperones will also be responsible for recruiting volunteers (youth/adults) from their county
who will assist with tasks as requested by the show committee such as gate keeper, ring clean up and
watering and practice ring monitor. Counties are to complete the County Chaperone Information sheet
available from their County Extension Staff and send by entry deadline.

2016 NEW ENGLAND 4-H HORSE EDUCATION POSTER CONTEST
Situation: 4-H members and their horses are on display for the public at The New England 4-H Horse Activity at
The Big E. Most of those who go through the horse barn and watch the 4-H horse show are not knowledgeable
about horses or safety around them. They often put themselves, their children, 4-H members and horses in
potentially dangerous situations because of this lack of knowledge.
Purpose:
