Summary of “Demeter and Persephone” Demeter is the Greek goddess of agriculture. Persephone is supposed to be her daughter. Persephone (daughter of Demeter) was stolen by Hades to be his wife. According to the Greek myth, Hades wanted to marry Persephone and take her to the underworld, making her the Goddess of the underworld. This caused Demeter such agony that she let the world start to die off. Demeter searched the world and when she found out Persephone was in the Underworld she was mad. She went to bring her daughter back but she had eaten the fruit of the Underworld so she couldn't leave. They made a deal that for some of the year she'd be with Hades and for the rest she'd be with Demeter. That formed the seasons, Fall and Winter with Hades and Spring and Summer with Demeter.
