interview.
The interview may want to know something about you,
meaning your personality and/or other innate attributes.
Learn how to express those things and make them relate to
your expertise.
本單元是關於在面試時如何談論你自己。面試想知道的
是關於你的個性及先天的特質。學習如何表示這些並讓
它涉及你的專長。
Joseph is at Hasegawa Tech. There’s a receptionist at the
front desk. Manager Wang is waiting in his office with
senior engineer Yoshida.
Joseph來到長谷川科技工業，有位前台招待在那兒，而
王經理與高級工程師吉田正在辦公室等著。
Joseph: Hello, my name is Joseph Lee. I am here for a
job interview with Manager Wang.
你好，我是Joseph Lee，來與王經理面試。
Receptionist: One moment, sir. I’ll just check and see if
they’re ready to see you.
請稍等，我確認一下他們是否準備好見你了。
Receptionist picks up the phone and calls
Wang’s office.
接待拿起電話並撥至王經理辦公室。
Receptionist: (on the telephone) Mr. Wang, your five
o’clock appointment, a Mr. Joseph Lee, is here. Yes, sir
(hangs up) They are expecting you, go straight down the
hall, it’s the first office on your right hand side.
王先生，你在五點鐘有約，一位Joseph Lee先生在這兒。
是的。他們正在等你，你直接沿著走廊走下去，右手邊
第一間辦公室就是了。
Joseph:
Thank you.
謝謝。
Joseph knocks on the door.
Joseph敲門。
Wang: Come in, please. Ah, good afternoon Joseph,
this is our senior engineer, Mr. Yoshida.
請進，午安Joseph，這位是我們的高級工程師吉田。
Joseph:
Good afternoon, Mr. Wang, Mr. Yoshida…sir
午安，王經理，吉田...先生。
Wang: Relax, Joseph. Take a seat. You seem a little tense. Do
not worry yourself too much, we read your portfolio and we
like it, that’s why you’re here. We wanted you here because
we want to know a little bit about what’s not on paper. So why
don’t you tell us a little bit about yourself.
放輕鬆點，Joseph，請坐，你看來有點緊張。別太擔心，
我們已經看過你的作品集了，並且我們很喜歡，所以你
現在才會在這。我們要你在這兒是因為我們想知道多一
些這上面沒有的事。那麼，何不告訴我們一些關於你自
己的事。
Joseph: Thank you, sir. Um…my name is Joseph Lee, I’m
from Taichung. I will be graduating from the Southern
Taiwan University this year. I have studied really hard
because I like what I do very much. I’ve participated in
several projects there and most of them were tutored by
Professor Goldman.
謝謝，我是Joseph Lee，台中人，今年將畢業於南台科
技大學。我認真學習只因為我樂在其中。我在那裏參予
多項計畫，大部分是由高盛教授指導。
Yoshida: Yes, I noticed that. I know Goldman from grad
school when we were lab partners. I know that he is a
man very difficult to impress, but somehow you pulled it
off. I’m sure his recommendation is well-founded.
嗯哼，我有注意到了。我從研究所時就認識高盛當我們
是研究室合作夥伴時，我知道他是一個非常難以打動的
人，不知為何你成功了。我敢肯定，他的推薦是有根據
的。
Joseph:
Thank you.

Wang: Joseph, we have hundreds of applicants who want
this job. And many of them, like yourself, are very
talented and some even with experience in the industry.
Tell me, why should I hire you? What is it about you,
aside from your professional expertise that makes you
the preferable choice for this company?
Joseph，我們有好幾百人想得到這份工作，而大多數人
跟你一樣有天分，甚至已有工作經驗。說說看，為什麼
要僱用你，除了你的專業知識外，還有甚麼讓公司覺得
你是更好的選擇？
Joseph: Well, I think that my advantage over the other applicants is that not
only am I a good worker, I am also a creative thinker. My strength lies in my
thinking process. Although I do not have that much experience in the
industry, I am young, energetic, and innovative. As you can see from my
portfolio, I not only utilized the conventional methods but also found out
new procedures to boost efficiency and at the same time lower production
cost. That I believe is good for the company. I’m also a very friendly and
outgoing person. I’m a team player and very easy to work with. That’s always
a bonus for office morale. On top of all that, I am passionate and I care about
what I do. That I think is my most important attribute. For those reasons, I
believe that I am the stronger pick.
嗯！我認為我優越於其他申請者是在於我不只認真工作，且富有創意。我
的優勢在於我的思維。雖然我沒有工作經驗，但我年輕有活力，又富含創
意。從我的作品集中，你也看到，我不僅利用了傳統的方法，更找出提升
效率、降低成本的新方法。我想這是對公司有幫助的。我是一個友善外向、
注重團隊合作的人，和我一起工作並非難事。這總是對於同仁間的士氣有
正面的效果。除此之外最重要的是我很有熱情，且在乎我的工作。我想這
是我最重要的特質。因此，我想我是最好的選擇。
Yoshida:
Well, you have very good spirit.
很好，你很有志氣。
Wang: Alright, Joseph, I think I’ll move you on to become
one of the finalists. My secretary will contact you as soon
as a decision is made. Thank you for coming today. It was
very nice meeting you.
好吧。Joseph。我會把你列入最後考慮人選中。當正式
決定之後，我的秘書會盡快通知你，很謝謝你今天的到
來，很高興認識你。
Joseph: Thank you, sir. The pleasure is mine. And thank
you for giving me the opportunity.
