EMPORIA STATE UNIVERSITY CLASSIFIED ASSEMBLY MEETING Tuesday, August 11, 2009 9:00 a.m. PKP Room, Memorial Union Minutes Members present: Judy Anderson, Connie Baumgardner, Donna Breshears, Debbie Eagan, Kim Gaines, Jackie Lutz, Mike Mercer, Taime Pitchford, Karla Rodgers, Shari Scribner and Kara Wolford. Members absent: Patty Delmott and Karen Weatherholt. Called to Order Donna Breshears Approval of June 9, 2009 minutes - approved as read New Member Introductions Donna introduced Karla Rodgers, who will be representing Student Affairs/ESU Police. Reports Human Resources (Judy Anderson) • All faculty and staff are required to attend the Discrimination and Harassment Awareness Training presented by Judy Anderson and Tracy Greene. Sessions are scheduled through September 29; Judy asked us to encourage our constituents to sign up via techsite.emporia.edu if they haven’t already attended the training. • The new Performance Management Process is now in effect, forms and a training video are now or will soon be available on the Human Resources web site. Contact Human Resources with any questions about the new process. Business Committee Responsibilities & Assignments (Donna Breshears) The following committee assignments were made for 2009/2010: Newsletter - Patty Delmott and Jackie Lutz Membership - Debbie Eagan and Kim Gaines Seminar - Mike Mercer and Karla Rodgers Campus Affairs - Connie Baumgardner and Shari Scribner Legislative Affairs - Donna Breshears and Taime Pitchford Scholarship - Karen Weatherholt and Kara Wolford Foundation Policy on New Performance Evaluation (Donna Breshears) Donna shared a copy of the ESU Foundation’s policy and will provide additional copies to all Classified Assembly members. Tuition Assistance (Kim Gaines) This topic will be revisited at a future meeting. Shared Governance (Donna Breshears) • Donna met with Betsy Yanik about the lack of classified employee involvement in the creation of the university’s new strategic plan. Donna asked that we keep her informed of any university-wide committee work and encouraged us to participate on committees when invited. • The Presidents of the Faculty Senate, Classified Assembly, and Associated Student Government plan to meet together at least once each semester. Continue work on Position Paper FY2011 (Donna Breshears) • Copies of the current draft were distributed. Kim suggested that the third item, requesting a 2.5% pay increase, should be benefits-focused rather than pay-focused. • Donna asked whether we would be interested in hosting our local state legislators on campus during the fall semester. The Seminar committee will be in charge of arrangements. Other • Copies of constituent lists were distributed and names updated where needed.
