In this unit ,Joseph and Peter try find their way in an
unfamiliar place. When in a foreign city, ask the local
people about ways to get around may save you time.
In this case, they ask the hotel concierge and were
informed that walking might be the best way, as
opposed to taking a taxi or public transportation.
Joseph and Peter rush out of the elevator and
into the hotel lobby. They are in a hurry
because Peter slept over. Joseph really wants to
get to the convention on time.
Joseph
Joseph : We have to hurry up! We don’t want
to miss the keynote speech!
Joseph :
Peter : Sorry I slept over, I’m still jetlagged.
Peter:
Joseph : Do you know how to get to the
convention?
Joseph :
Peter : Let’s go ask the hotel concierge.
Peter:
Peter : Excuse me, do you know what is the
fastest way to get to the GM building.
Concierge : The easiest way would be by taxi. If
you want to take one, I can call a cab for you.
Are you in a hurry?
Concierge :
Joseph : Yes we are! We have to get there in
twenty minutes.
Joseph :
Concierge : In that case, don’t try the taxi. You won’t
be able to make it this time of the day with all the
traffic going on. You’ll have a better chance taking the
subway, although it’s going to be really crowded now.
Or you can just walk there. It usually takes about 25 to
30 minutes but if you hurry…
Concierge :
Joseph : We’ll run!
Joseph :
Peter : Oh, great!
Peter :
Concierge : Okay, here, I’ll show you the way on
the map. Go six blocks down this street and
make a left at Fifth Avenue and then three
blocks up. You can’t miss it.
Concierge :
It is the last day of their stay and they have an
appointment with Mr. Peterson at 5 o’clock. Mr.
Peterson is the general manager of a New Yorkbased company. Peter calls Mr. Peterson’s
office.
Secretary :Good afternoon, Mr. Peterson’s
office. How may I help you?
Peter : Hi, my name is Peter Younglove from
Hasegawa Tech, I’m calling about the
appointment with Mr. Peterson at five.
Peterson
Secretary : Yes, Mr. Younglove, you do have one
at five. Will Mr. Lee be coming with you?
Peter : Yes, my colleague and I are coming
together. Unfortunately, the convention is
running a little late, and I’m wondering if it’s
okay to push back the meeting a bit. Say
around five thirty, or six?
Peter :
Mr. Peterson
Secretary : I’m sorry but that’s going to be
difficult because Mr. Peterson has a dinner plan
tonight at seven. He told me that he would like
to rest for at least half an hour before that. So
six o’clock would be an inconvenient time for
him.
Secretary :
Mr. Peterson
Peter : I understand.
Peter :
Secretary : So do you want me to cancel the
meeting?
Secretary :
Peter : No, no. It’s okay. Let’s just keep it at five.
We will try our best to get there on time.
Peter :
Secretary : Yes, please do. Mr. Peterson hates
waiting around for people.
Mr. Peterson討厭
等人。
Peter : Thanks for the warning.
Peter :
Secretary :You’re welcome. So we’ll see you
and Mr. Lee at five.
Secretary :
Lee。
Peter : Yes, we’ll see you then.
Peter :
Secretary : Goodbye.
Secretary :再見。
