Gothic architecture is most familiar as
the architecture of many of the great
cathedrals, abbeys and parish
churches of Europe.
Structure
• Pointed arch (尖拱)
One of the defining characteristics of
Gothic architecture is the pointed or
ogival arch. A characteristic of Gothic
church architecture is its height, both
real and proportional. A section of the
main body of a Gothic church usually
shows the nave as considerably taller
than it is wide.
Structure
• Ribbed vault (交叉拱肋)
The intersection of two or three
barrel vaults produces a rib-vault or
ribbed vault when they are edged
with an armature of piped masonry
often carved in decorative patterns.
Structure
• Flying buttresses (飛扶壁)
Flying buttress is a specific
type of buttress usually
found on religious buildings,
especially cathedrals. The
buttress seemingly flies
through the air, and hence is
known as a "flying" buttress.
Structure
• Rose window (玫瑰花窗)
A Rose window (or Catherine
window) is often used as a
generic term applied to a
circular window
Structure
• Tracery (花飾窗格)
Tracery is an architectural
term used primarily to
describe the stonework
elements that support the
glass in a Gothic window.
Structure
• Stained glass (彩色玻璃)
The term stained glass
can refer to the
material of colored
glass or the craft of
working with it.
