If you are connected or involved with University Ministry, how? ***Spring Meetings and August Training are mandatory; please note these dates on the opposite side.*** Sophomore Servant Leadership Positions Peer Mentors/Pre-O Retreat Although each position has its unique character and commitments, both positions offer ample opportunities for you to: Serve your community by offering your gifts and talents Grow deeper in your faith by learning new ways to pray, exploring your spirituality, and intentional faith sharing Meet a diverse group of people who hold similar values Discover more about who you are and who you were created to become Peer Mentors As a UMPM, you dedicate your sophomore year to growing in your own faith while learning to be a model of faith for others. You will gain leadership skills by living faith-based servant leadership, building community, and becoming more involved in University Ministry and faith life at USD. One-on-one mentorship with new students as they go through the transition into college is an essential role for Peer Mentors. Other responsibilities include coordinating social and service activities for Mentors and Mentees such as bowling, day at the beach, visiting AIDS patients in Tijuana and serving meals at a local shelter. Peer Mentors are especially invited to serve as Liturgical Ministers and help people feel welcome in the community at Founders Chapel. If selected, you must be available for the following: Spring meetings: Tuesdays 12:15-1:15pm, April 1 & 15 & Sunday, April 27, 8-9pm (Between 7pm and 9pm Founders Masses) Commissioning: May 13, 1 pm August training: August 26-29 Welcome Weekend: August 29-31 Pre-O Retreat Leaders As a Pre-O Retreat leader, you are the first face of USD, inviting over 70 first-year students into the University Ministry community. You welcome them with open arms, while also growing in your own faith. On retreat, you serve as a small-group leader and facilitate various other activities on retreat. Through these opportunities, you have the chance to re-live your own PreO experience and to give back to others by sharing God’s love. Although the retreat ends as school begins, Pre-O leaders continue to aid students through their transition to college and invite them into a faith community where they can belong, believe, and become. If selected, you must be available for the following: Spring Meetings: Tuesdays from 1 – 2 pm April 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 Commissioning: May 13, 1 pm August training: August 23-26, 2014 Pre-Orientation Retreat: August 27 - 29, 2014 Students of all different faith traditions are invited to apply!
