October 2015
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
We are now over 6 weeks into the school year and into the
Autumn season – what a great time of year! Very soon, the first
trimester progress notices will be going out for students who have
areas of growth needed in content standards areas or for
behavior/social successful practices skills. Teachers have been
formally and informally assessing students in order to best support
the academic needs of their students. Teachers have also been
busy attending professional development and collaboratively
planning lessons for our new math curriculum and Readers
Workshop Units of Study to continue providing quality instruction
for students. This month our character trait focus is on Respect
and fifth grade students presented the topic at our recent Pride
Assembly. Through class discussions, our Trajan morning
messages, as well as discussions we encourage you to have at
home with your children, the expectation is that our students will
display respectful behaviors consistently. Thank you for working
together with us to support your child’s social and academic
progress!
TARDY CRACKDOWN
We have a growing tardy problem at Trajan. If you are one of
the families struggling to be on time, plan to leave your house
5 minutes earlier or do whatever it will take to correct this
problem. Tardy students’ Citizenship grades are affected as
well as it disrupts the class when they come in late. Students
should be in their class by 7:45. If students are not in their
classrooms by 7:45 they will be sent to the office for a tardy
stamp.
MARQUEE BIRTHDAY GREETINGS
For just $20.00 you can have your child’s name on Trajan’s
marquee all day to wish him or her Happy Birthday or to
congratulate them on an achievement. All proceeds will go into
a donation account so that we can purchase new books for the
library and for teacher’s classroom libraries. If you would like to
join the fun, simply bring in $20 cash to the Secretary, along
with your message that you would like for your child.
Rec. Aides for School Lunch Duty Needed:
Trajan is in need of substitute recreational aides for
playground/lunchroom duty to supervise students during school
lunch times as needed. The hours are 11:25 a.m.-12:50 p.m. and
the pay is $9.00 an hour. If interested, please contact Paula
Lasick, our school secretary, to obtain the paperwork needed to
apply.
VISITORS ON CAMPUS
For the safety of our students and staff as well as our visitors,
please remember that all campus visitors must sign in at the
front office and get a Visitor’s Badge. When leaving campus,
visitors must also sign out at the front office.
Attendance Matters!
Trajan students are working hard to be at school, on time, all
day so that they have all of the instructional time they can
each day. As one incentive, students who were here all day,
each day during the first month of school were given a
certificate and entered into a drawing for a gift card at our
recent Pride Assembly. Students will have this opportunity
each month. We will also have a display outside the office
showing how many late arrivals and early dismissals we
have each day as a visual incentive to help us bring that
number down lower. We understand that students do get
sick; however, if everyone does their best to be here and to
make appointments outside of school hours it will help us
reach our goal of increasing our average daily attendance
here at Trajan to 96.5%. Every minute counts for student
