Description of the Initiative (in less than 10 lines), including, as appropriate elements

Ongoing Initiative
Sustainable Consumption in Arab countries is the topic of the 2015 annual report of the Arab Forum
for Environment and Development (AFED), the eighth in the series on the State of Arab Environment
which kicked off in 2008.
A Public Opinion survey conducted by AFED in 22 countries as part of the report, will examine
consumption attitudes and readiness to change habits.
The Report and survey analysis will be launched at AFED’s eighth annual conference, scheduled in
Beirut on 16-17 November 2015.
The AFED 2015 report aims to collect and disseminate first hand sectoral and cross-sectoral data on
consumption and production patterns of the three focus areas: Water, Energy, Food. Analyze and
demonstrate consumption and production patterns of the three focus areas. Recommend actions
and policy measures required to bridge the current gap between consumption patterns, existing
production trends, and current government policies. Raise public awareness and trigger informed
policy debate about the importance of Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) as a
strategic step towards achieving sustainable development through shifting to green economy.
Results:
AFED reports have gained global reputation as the most reliable and independent sources on
environment issues in the Arab region, and the main environmental policy drivers.
