MOI plans to hire more social workers to address shortage Abstract: social workers protest outside the Ministry of the Interior calling for a long-term and stable hiring system for social workers to be established ASAP. The Ministry of the Interior (MOI) plans to subsidize the hiring of more social workers by local governments after controversy over a recent mother and daughter murder-suicide brought to light the severe shortage of such workers in Taiwan. The MOI said Friday that there are currently 1688 social workers on government payrolls, far from the number needed, and before their ranks can be replenished, the ministry will continue to provide subsidies to help local government recruit new people.
