E. McDonald thanked everyone, especially her committee, for the
help at the majors fair. The Advising Center asked to co-sponsor one
with them in the fall. The public safety event will have the run-hidefight video and a presentation, with an additional Q&A section so
that students are aware of different situations and can raise their
concerns related to campus safety. The event will take place on April
2nd from 3-4 PM in the SC Theatre. E. Osborn will send out an e-mail
to all of the students to let them know about it. Fliers will be put up
around campus too.
H. Pancak from Student Activities also invited SGA to a commuter
luncheon to get input this week. Student Issues will have
representation to get commuter input.
ii. Public Relations:
Elections are coming up in a few weeks. Applications are posted this
Eastern Connecticut State University Student Government Association
“Students Serving Students”
Wednesday. The bucket list event that was postponed will be coming
up on April 15th. The Voting Party will be Tuesday, April 22.
iii. Internal:
Town Pride, Town Wide is all day on Sunday, April 27th. It is a
community service project in Willimantic that helps out the town in
a variety of different volunteer tasks. E. Pelletier will contact
interested senators with more information.
The Internal committee is working on the banquets. The candidate
meet-and-greet for elections is Wednesday, April 16 from 3-4 PM.
Invitations for the Internal Banquet were passed out to the Senators.
It is in the Johnson Room of the Library. The food starts at 5:30, but
Senators may show up at 5. Make sure you RSVP to E. Pelletier if you
want to be in attendance (SGAInternal@my.easternct.edu). Senators
may bring one guest.
iv. BAM:
1. FRP Schedule:
FRPs go up on 3/27. They are due on 4/9 and BAM
Committee will be reviewing them at their meeting on 4/10,
4/17, and 4/24. Those three meetings will be closed to clubs,
with the appeals meeting open to all clubs on 5/1.
E. Drouin asked about club council. M. Hicks and C. Ambrosio
will be looking into the meeting time.
2. “Dr. Who” Club:
The students explained what the television show is. They are
hoping to get students interested in the show to watch it and
participate in group activities too. They may have a possible
bake sale/dress-up. There were about 6 people at the
interest meeting. They are hoping to recruit more for next
semester. A. Bullard asked if they will expand to go to other
BBC shows, and the club has discussed it, but are unsure at
this point.
3. Yoga Club:
The club meets on Wednesdays at 5 PM and are looking into
reserving Mead/Niejadlik commons because of the space
needed. Students in the club must purchase their own mats.
The club might purchase 5 of their own in case a student
forgets or is new and does not have one. The club has already
secured an instructor who will come in to teach. The goal of
the club is to bring awareness of yoga to the students. There
were at least 42 interested students at the interest meeting. J.
Reid recommended using fundraising to purchase mats.
4. Ballroom Dancing Club:
I. Rossi from Ballroom Dancing Club said there were about a
dozen students at the interest meeting. They will have an
instructor and dance lessons for members with the
possibility of having school-wide dances. If membership
increases, I. Rossi said there may be a competition too.
Lessons would be in the dance room in the gym. Partners are
not necessary.
4. Treasurer’s Report:
Nothing to report at this time.
5. Secretary’s Report:
a. Admitted Students Day:
M. Fournier, J. Garzone, C. Gosselin, and M. McFall-Gorman volunteered to
work at the event this weekend. 12:30-3:30 PM this Saturday in SC 113, 115.
b. Black Student Union:
M. McFall-Gorman gave an update on the collaboration event with the BSU.
They are having a “Unity Pageant” where different clubs represent different
members of their club’s past. SGA will have Senators attending dressing as
political figures. The event is to raise awareness of the different clubs’
histories.
6. Advisor’s Report:
7. Old Business:
8. New Business:
9. Open Floor:
K. Mines, an Eastern student, spoke about SGA. She mentioned what her perspective
of SGA is as a non-Senator. She asked for more student input in our decisions,
especially in regards to tuition hikes, etc. The new system is very open to change
and there needs to be student input in making the decisions with CONNSCU at every
step of the way. She mentioned how Career Services got more aggressive in
advertising and we need to be getting students more aware of what’s going on with
politics and be just as aggressive. We need to seek out students and let them know
about the channels that we can get feedback. Many students are still unaware of
what SGA is and how they can contact us. K. Mines also noted that we have a far
reach but need more face-to-face contact. It is difficult for students to reach out to
us, but we need to be the ones reaching out to them.
