Directions and Examples:
This annual update has been designed so that a on-page program review update is provided by
each department on an annual basis, in conjunction with the Departmental Program Review
process.
The program outcome(s) that were identified by department chairs as being those under study for
2006-07 and 2007-08. For the outcome that was under study in 06-07, specific data should by now
have been collected, studied and perhaps acted upon. Please note the following schedule:

Please e-mail this completed form to angie.didier@sinclair.edu by March 3, 2008.
Thank you.
Please list noteworthy changes in the data set from last year:
AVT 110 is our Private Pilot Ground School. The primary focus of this course,
in addition to the basic information content, is precisely Critical Thinking &
Problem Solving. The principal outcome of this course is to successfully pass
the proctored, online, FAA written exam. We have established an FAA testing
center in our flight simulator laboratory and monitor the results directly. Our
average student pass rate is over 90%. The testing center is new to our
campus. Since opening it last year, our enrollment in ground school has
increased, as have the average test scores.
Please list the actions and/or improvement priorities underway from the
most recent program review recommendations:
The program review was generally quite positive, and focused on the objectives
of continued growth of the program, and maintaining currency in the rapidly
evolving technical aviation industry. As a result, three of the four
degree/certificate programs are undergoing review, streamlining, and
experimentation into new aviation workforce development areas.

Program outcome(s)--data collected for 07-08
How have you analyzed the data collected? What did you find? Describe
the results obtained.
The academic year 07-08 is the first year of operation of the new, FAA
approved testing center in the Aviation Department. The data collected form the
basis of comparison for future years of progress in training airplane pilots. It is
already apparent from the growth in numbers of students taking the FAA exams
during the four quarters of this academic year, that the in-house testing center is
an important new feature of this program.
Program outcome(s)—data collected for 08-09
For the outcome(s) currently under study (for 08-09 outcomes), what
evidence and process do you plan to use to determine the extent to which
this/these program outcome(s) have been met?
The Aviation Department worked with the Sinclair Library to update and expand
the collection of published, hard-copy works available to students, both in
general circulation, and on reserve. Use of these books and periodicals in
conjunction with online resources is emphasized in all aviation courses, with
highlighted in the AVT 105 and 125 coursework. This has uncovered a
disturbing trend in the deterioration of students’ abilities to do basic research
from hardcopy sources. Our goal to insure that this skill is not lost in the race to
have online research become the norm, or even worse, the sole avenue for
maintaining and improving Information Literacy.
Note: Next year, you will be asked to describe the analysis (07-08 outcomes), and
actions/improvements underway (06-07 outcomes).
General Education
Describe any general education changes/improvements in your
program/department during this past academic year (06-07).
Increased emphasis on communication, not just reading and writing, but also
listening and speaking. Generally, incoming students are poorly schooled in
listening and oral presentation skills.
