COURSE LENGTH
One term
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Introduces the basic materials used in construction, with discussion on manufacturing, fabrication, design and assembly
processes for large and small buildings. Focus on steel, concrete wood and masonry construction.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After completing this course, you will be able to:
 Learn basic Materials and Methods used in Building Construction
 Describe common construction systems
 Learn the processes, organization, constraints, and choices in construction
 Describe the management of construction
 Introduction to the building envelop including design enclosures, thermal insulation, and moisture control
 Discuss professional ethics, academic dishonesty, and software piracy.

Class attendance is very important. Missing more than one week of class (two class periods) may result in a letter grade
penalty. Always try to talk to the instructor in advance should you need to be absent. Students are expected to be on
time to class.
