ENGL&151/152/153 – Creative Writing (Online) Final Assignment: Short Story Revision Assignment: For your final assignment of the quarter you will substantially revise your short story. The words substantial and revision mean more that simply editing and tinkering. This week’s reading in Burroway will cover this in some detail. There is no upper limit to revision and it is not unheard of for a revised draft to contain upwards of 50% new words. It is important to keep in mind that revision does not simply mean adding to. If you expand in one area you should condense in another. To this end, your revised stories have an absolute limit of 5 pages. As the syllabus explains, your grade on this assignment will not replace the grade you originally earned. This is an entirely new grade, based on the extent to which you engage in the process of revision. The basic question I will ask myself when I read your revision: is this a substantially new version of the story or is it basically the same? As you revise, make sure to look back at both the original workshop and my comments on your previously graded version. Requirements Typed, double-spaced, 1-in margins, 12-pt font Heading Title Page numbers Length: 5 pages Important Date: Revision due Friday December 11 at 11:59 PM
