ENGL&102 – English Composition II (Online & Hybrid) Seminar Paper #2: Explicating Connections Seminar Paper #2 has three parts. Separate your response into those three parts. Write in complete sentences and in paragraph form. Part 1 Find a Thread: Identify a thread, binary, or binary opposition in Denis Johnson’s collection Jesus’ Son. Look for accrual throughout multiple stories rather than singular instances in individual stories. Explicate the connecting logic of the thread, etc. Make sure to provide the names of the stories that figure in your analysis. Part 2: Quote. Step into a short (1-2 sentences) quote from "A Conversation on Ralph Steadman and His Book, America, with Dr. Hunter S. Thompson" that seems related to the thread, etc. that you located in Jesus’ Son. Step out of the quote by explicating how it sheds light on, alters, or in any way influences your understanding of what you wrote about in Part 1. Part 3: Your Synthesis Proposal. Outline your ideas for the Synthesis Essay. Identify which texts you are working with and the meaningful connection between them. Step into and out of one quotation from each text that exhibits an aspect of the meaningful connection. Explain as best you can at this point the direction that your Synthesis will take from here and what you think or hope can be gained from pursuing this synthesis.
