Biology 211 Extra credit – Going beyond the book Due Thursday, Dec. 4 There are questions that have come up in class that are not adequately addressed by our textbook. While the textbook does a good job of guiding us through the basic concepts of biology, there are many details that it cannot cover. For this assignment you will be researching a question or topic using the scientific literature to add to your depth of understanding of an area. Assignment: Choose a question or topic that has come up in lecture or your own reading of the text that you would like to learn more about. Find an article (or articles) from a peer-reviewed scientific journal (primary source) that addresses the question. Write a summary of the article, explaining how it answers your question or adds to your understanding of the topic. The assignment is worth 2 pts (2% of total grade). Paper Instructions: Maximum length - 2 pages. Double-spaced. Times New Roman or equivalent, 12 pt, 1 inch margins top, bottom & sides. No cover page (put name in upper right margin) Must include a complete citation for the scientific paper(s) used as references. If you need more information on what a peer-reviewed scientific journal is, or how to locate articles, please contact me. NSCC library has some good databases (some of you also have access to UW library) and I can show you how to use them.
