Charlie Beckett is Director of Polis at LSE. He was a senior journalist at the BBC, LWT and
ITN and has written and taught on media issues such as the role of journalism in civil society,
reporting politics and news values.
John Cridland is deputy Director General of the Confederation of British Industry. He is
also a member of the Low Pay Commission and the ACAS Council.
Howard Davies is Director of the LSE. He was previously Chairman of the Financial
Services Authority, Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, Director General of the CBI
and Controller of the Audit Commission.
Ian Gordon is Professor of Human Geography at LSE. His main research interests have
been in urban development and policies, spatial labour markets, migration and spatial
interaction, particularly in the context of major metropolitan regions.
Simon Jenkins is a columnist for the Guardian, the Sunday Times and the Evening Standard.
He was previously editor of the Evening Standard and the Times.
Prue Keely was formerly Editor of Radio 4’s World Tonight programme. She was also
Commissioning Editor for General Factual programming at the BBC.
Simon Milton is Leader of Westminster City Council and Deputy Chairman of the Local
Government Association. He previously ran a public relations consultancy.
Hugh Muir is a writer at the Guardian who has specialised in reporting London. Previously
he was at the Evening Standard and before that worked elsewhere in Fleet Street
Nick Raynsford is MP for Greenwich and Woolwich. He was formerly Minister of State for
Housing and Planning and was Director of SHAC, the London Housing Aid Centre, 1976-86.
Ed Richards is Chief Operating Officer at OFCOM. He was previously Senior Policy
Advisor to the Prime Minister for Media, Telecoms, Internet and e-government. Before that
he was Controller of Corporate Strategy at the BBC.
Colin Stanbridge is Chief Executive of the London Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He
was previously Managing Director of Carlton Broadcasting.
Tony Travers is Director of LSE London, the School’s research centre for urban and
metropolitan studies. His research interests include government, politics and the history of

Veronica Wadley is Editor of the Evening Standard. She was previously deputy editor of
The Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail.
Christine Whitehead is Professor of Housing Economics at LSE. She is also has a senior
position at the University of Cambridge and is Visiting Professor at the University of
Glasgow. Her research interests include housing, planning and urban development.
